Job Summary |
Student Affairs at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Assistant Director, Group Fitness! The Assistant Director, Group Fitness is essential to Recreation and Wellness by managing the daily operations of a group fitness program and provides educational and recreational opportunities to students, faculty, and staff. |
Essential Functions |
- Coordinate all aspects of group fitness instructional programs include, but not limited to developing class offerings, determine group fitness scheduled of classes and events, secure facility reservations, and hire qualified instructors.
- Supervises student staff which includes hiring, training, evaluating, and providing professional development opportunities. The Assistant Director will oversee the continuing education of group fitness staff.
- Supervises and provides mentorship to professional staff working in group fitness programming
- Plans and implements short and long-term goals, programs, budgets, and equipment needs for group fitness
- Develops assessment tools and reports to track outcomes and support goal and policy revisions
- Collaborates with Assistant Director-Risk Management on risk management and emergency action plans and education for group fitness programs.
- Supports event planning and partners with marketing to promote group fitness programs

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications |
Degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Fitness Management, Physical Education, Recreation, Health Education, or related field
- Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of experience OR
- Master's degree plus 3 years of experience
Scope of Experience: Experience in university or corporate health/fitness setting |
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities |
- Knowledge of recreation and sports management/administration to include program design, training, instruction, risk management, safety and liability guidelines.

Minimum License and Certifications |
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED (automated external defibrillator) required upon hire.
