Business Development Manager, Data Centers

We are seeking a Business Development Manager for Data Centers to join our North American Industrial Instruments sales team. The aim of the role is to drive growth in the data center segment by developing new customers and strengthening relationships with the existing ones. You will leverage your industry knowledge and contacts to position our advanced measurement solutions-such as temperature and humidity measurement solutions for data halls, air handlers, cooling systems, and outdoor installations-as essential control and monitoring system components for data center operators, colocation providers, and cloud service companies. You will work with the global team to expand Vaisala's market presence by identifying and securing new business opportunities in the segment.

This role is a full-time role, reporting to the Head of Industrial Instruments Sales for North America. Hybrid work or remote is negotiable, preferably in an industry hub. The team is mostly located in Burlington, MA.

What's your role?

Strategic Planning and Market Analysis:

• Develop and execute sales strategies to expand our client base for measurement solutions and services in data centers and achieve company revenue targets.
• Conduct thorough market research to identify potential clients, industry trends, and changing competitive landscape within data center industry. Monitor and report on sales metrics, pipeline status, and business development activities.
• Analyze and assess the effectiveness of business development strategies and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.

Client Acquisition:

• Identify, target, and acquire new clients within the data center industry that require accurate measurements for critical cooling and maximum uptime.
• Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders within target organizations.
• Lead and manage the entire sales cycle, from initial contact to sales negotiations and closure, working together with the Industrial Instruments and Service sales teams to develop global customers.

Networking and Relationship Building:

• Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to promote our products and services, delivering thought-leadership and establishing industry connections.

• Conduct thought leadership and other educational events to decision makers and industry influencers. Prepare and deliver compelling presentations, proposals, and product and technology demonstrations to prospective clients.

• Develop system specifications, understand emerging measurements needs, and nurture long-term relationships with clients to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with global product management and product development, regional marketing, and customer support teams to ensure alignment. Support for business development activities like promotional materials, case studies, and other content.

• Work in tandem with the regional, industry focused, and inside sales teams to ensure execution of customer needs and solutions.

What will you bring?

Education:

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master's or MBA preferred).

Experience:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in working with data center BMS or controls, with experience in business development and sales.
• Experience working with data center operators, colocation providers, cloud service companies, building automation integrators, or instrumentation companies.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations relevant to data centers.
• Experience in global account management and developing new customers.

Desired Skillsets:

• Understanding of data center infrastructure, cooling solutions, and building automation design.
• Proven track record of building strategic relationships and achieving sales growth in a technical B2B environment.
• Hunter mindset.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically, and internationally as needed.

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE:$100,000 - $125,000 base salary (negotiable dependent on experince) with an annual 25%-50% sales bonus plan. Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
