Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for the supervision and leadership of a team of Portfolio Managers (PMs). Will coach and train PMs, balance workload amongst the team, provide role clarity, and ensure that job functions are performed consistently across the company. Will work to improve work streams, procedures, and policies to continuously enhance efficiency and productivity among the PM Team.

Depending on workload and staffing levels, this position could also provide direct support to one or more Commercial Bankers. Duties include managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the portfolios, assisting in new business development efforts, facilitating and monitoring the Commercial Loan Process from inception to loan closing, acting as a liaison with the other departments and interacting with clients directly to improve the overall client experience.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the supervision and leadership of a team of Portfolio Managers. Duties include recruiting, hiring, training, performance monitoring, and overall management of employees.
  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of performance feedback that includes quarterly and annual reviews, developmental action plans and disciplinary action, as applicable.
  • Achieve individual and team goals within defined timelines, as well as define and implement measurement of acceptable staff performance.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient and productive working environment within the team based on continuous and effective staff communication.
  • Responsible for creating agendas and conducting regular staff meetings/training sessions/coaching sessions to provide positive feedback with actionable items to ensure individual and group success. Lead associates in the Peoples way and culture.
  • Will work to improve work streams, procedures, and policies to continuously enhance efficiency and productivity amongst the PM Team.
  • Monitors workflow to ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Support the Commercial Bankers prospecting efforts by identifying potential targets and contacts using third party B2B and social media platforms, providing industry research and facilitating marking campaigns.
  • Interact with clients and external contacts including accountants, attorneys, consultants and title agencies to facilitate the lending, credit and risk management process.
  • Assist with the design and preparation of client and prospect presentation materials.
  • Identify cross sell opportunities in the existing portfolio and initiate partner introductions.
  • Finalize loan structures with the Commercial Bankers and initiate the credit process in the loan origination system.
  • Proactively review the portfolio for maturing loans to ensure renewals and extensions are processed on a timely basis.
  • Work with the Credit Underwriters to ensure the credit memos are complete and thorough.
  • Review loan documentation to ensure consistency with the credit approval and resolve any changes and or modifications with the Closing Coordinator.
  • Facilitate loan closings in conjunction with and on behalf of the Commercial Banker.
  • Act as a liaison with the Portfolio Monitoring Group to ensure the timely receipt of financial statements, tax returns, borrowing bases and covenant calculations.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of the customer base for performance trends and covenant compliance. Notify the Commercial Banker of any deterioration noted in performance or covenants on a timely basis.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of the portfolios quarterly client reviews.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Client Advisor Team to ensure past due payments, customer inquiries and service issues are resolved.
  • Will complete special projects as assigned.

Education, Experience and Job Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lending and/or underwriting or equivalent experience, preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on relationship building both internally and with clients and prospects.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Team oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with technology and ability to learn new applications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lending and/or underwriting or equivalent experience, preferably in the financial services industry.
