Job Description: The Data Scientist III at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in New York, New York will apply and integrate advanced statistical, mathematical, data mining, predictive modeling and business analysis skills and techniques to discover and identify new insights, predict and prescribe outcomes, advise on turning new insights into actionable opportunities and outcomes, and provide tracking and measurement of results. Develop solutions, mathematical models, algorithms, machine learning techniques, and robust analytics to support analytic insights and visualization of complex data sets for productionalization and monetization. Build data visualizations utilizing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, d3.js, React frameworks, and dashboards utilizing PowerBI, Tableau and PowerApp, to communicate data across business segments and with multiple audiences in mind. Interpret internal and external data resources to develop and deliver solutions, including analytical information. Manipulate and analyze a variety of unstructured data utilizing R and Python packages including scikit-learn, and optimization packages including Optuna. Access and extract data from diverse sources residing on multiple platforms and implement large, complex data models and information solutions by combining, synthesizing and structuring data from various data sources. Design and build machine learning systems and components utilizing Databricks with MLFlow Integration, and AWS data science including S3, Redshift, and utilizing distributed databases and query languages including Spark and SQL. Apply and integrate LLM models utilizing NLP packages utilizing HuggingFace models and pipelines, and by selecting best language model through evaluation methods such as A/B testing and metrics selection. Telecommuting permitted up to 3 days per week. Salary $106,680- $189,540 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Data Science or a related field plus 6 months of experience as a data analyst or related occupation. Experience must include 6 months with each of the following: (1) designing and building machine learning systems and components utilizing Databricks with MLFlow integration, and AWS data science including S3 and Redshift; (2) extracting, manipulating, and analyzing datasets utilizing distributed databases and processing systems including Spark and SQL; (3) Building data visualizations utilizing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, d3.js, React frameworks, and dashboards utilizing PowerBI, Tableau, and PowerApp; (4) building NLP models utilizing Python and NLP packages including HuggingFace models and pipelines; (5) analyzing data to generate relevant insights utilizing R and Python packages including scikit-learn and optimization packages including Optuna; and (6) using and selecting language models, evaluation methods including A/B testing, and metrics utilizing MLFlow.
