Summary:

As a Principal Software Architect, you will play a key role in design and implementing solutions across the diverse healthcare systems. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with healthcare standards such as HL7, FHIR, CDA and experience integrating EHR/EMR platforms, HIEs, and payer-provider systems.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and lead the architecture for secure, scalable healthcare interoperability solutions.
  • Define data integration strategies using industry standards such as HL7 v2/v3, CDA, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and X12
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and leadership teams to define and deliver new features and enhancements.
  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and pilot projects to validate integration approaches.
  • Establish best practices and architectural patterns for microservices, parallel processing, data storage, data management, reporting, and messaging systems.
  • Perform architectural reviews and provide technical oversight, ensuring solutions align with the system vision, scalability goals, and best practices.
  • Interact with senior business leaders for all major capability enhancements (roadmap) and provide/own the proposed architectural solution. Participate in road mapping activities with all stakeholders
  • Contribute to day-to-day technical deliverables
  • Stay at the forefront by continuously exploring emerging technologies to keep our business competitive

What Success Looks Like:

  • In 3 months, you will have a deep understanding of our software solutions and platforms and have contributed to the design and implementation of key capabilities including interoperability
  • In 6 months, you will have led the delivery of major feature/capabilities improving our products including interoperability
  • In 12 months, you will have successfully driven interoperability and architectural initiatives that improve business outcomes while being recognized as a technical thought leader.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). A master's degree in computer science or related discipline is preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience designing, architecting, and optimizing enterprise-scale applications, with a focus on scalability, security, and interoperability solutions.
  • Proven experience as a software architect or senior developer, with a track record of leading complex technical initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of modern software engineering principles, architectural best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Strong experience with data integration technologies (e.g., APIs, HL7 engines, FHIR servers).
  • In-depth knowledge of EHR/EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and secure API frameworks (OAuth 2.0, SMART on FHIR).
  • Familiarity with clinical terminologies and coding systems (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, RxNorm)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-growth, and rapidly evolving environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of judgment and creativity in designing innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment, ensuring high-quality virtual interactions with minimal distractions.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for team collaboration and company events.
