Description

Position Summary: The Children's Aid (CA), established in 1853, is one of New York City's leading child and family service organizations. The Bronx Family Center operates a campus of four buildings serving Child Welfare Family Services, Early Childhood, a Health Clinic, Teen Center and more. CA is looking to hire a full-time Custodian as part of the Campus maintenance team. The Custodian will help the team keep the location clean, compliant, and operational.

Essential Duties:



  • Perform routine manual tasks to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of buildings and
  • Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and
  • Empties and decontaminates trash
  • Disposes of infectious waste when
  • Moves, rearranges, and dust furniture and
  • Mixes or blends routine cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various
  • Cleans and waxes floors using industrial-size mops and/or
  • Strips and polishes floors using buffing Shampoos carpets.
  • Thoroughly cleans and sanitizes children's toys
  • Washes blinds, windows, and walls consistent with CA-approved
  • Sweeps sidewalks, porches, and tiled Shovels snow and removes ice.
  • Operates wet/dry vacuum for cleaning and shampooing carpeted
  • Maintains equipment; reports need for painting and minor building or equipment repair to
  • Replace light bulbs and/or report safety hazards to
  • Cuts grass, trim shrubs, waters plants, and performs other related duties on the grounds when
  • Performs custodial-related duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary
  • Performs varied custodial tasks necessary for the upkeep of buildings and grounds, which includes painting, minor electrical, lighting, plumbing repairs, and other related tasks.
  • Serve as a courier between CA sites when assigned.
  • Serve on the emergency response
  • Periodically inspect and keep a record of fire extinguisher tags
  • Perform the duties of a certificate of fitness holder for Certificate of Fitness S-95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
  • Reports building or equipment repairs to supervisor, and advises Head Custodian on all maintenance and repair
  • Monitor supply inventory on the
  • Remember that, as support staff, we are the last ones leaving the building, and we must make sure the building is ready for the next business
  • Other duties as required


Qualifications



  • Certificates of fitness

    • S-95 Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fire Alarm


  • Reliable and responsive Ability to follow directions and develop strong cleaning skills.
  • Team orientated
  • Willingness to learn new skills while improving current ones.
  • Ability to read and Professional demeanor, pleasant verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional approach; resourceful, dependable, approachable
  • Bilingual English/Spanish helpful
  • HS Graduate/GED Preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred, particularly email and calendar. Experience in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.


Professional Development



  • Participate in offered trainings, workshops, In-Service days, and/or All-Staff conferences
  • Participate in periodic fire drills
  • Maintain certification requirements and proof of attendance in professional
  • Support the growth of the center, including participating in program-wide goal setting and individual and program self-


Health and Safety



  • Adhere to all state and city licensing requirements and CPR/first aid
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment (i.e., safely store cleaning supplies and equipment, mark wet floors, )
