Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for clerical support to the program. Deals with information of a sensitive and confidential nature.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma and one year of secretarial experience or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
  • Beginning level of Microsoft Word and Excel required, including creating, editing, formatting, and printing documents and spreadsheets.



Secretary Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Type and translate flyers and correspondence to families and produce spreadsheets and proposals.
  2. Assist administrative assistant with processing purchase orders and vendor bills into Procrit system.
  3. Translates and interprets for parents as needed, makes families welcome and assists with filling out forms.
  4. Attends, as requested, parent and/or parent council meetings throughout the school year.
  5. Manages filing system, distributes paychecks, mail, and makes photocopies.
  6. Record student attendance (including admissions and discharges) weekly including meal and snack count to food vendor.
  7. Requisition and monitor office supplies and equipment.
