Medical Secretary - Cardiology

Description

The Medical Secretary must provide excellent customer service to patients and work directly with the physicians and non-physician team members in the Advanced Heart Failure department. Performs general office duties including, but not limited to, answering telephone calls, scheduling patient appointments, filing, chart preparation, proof-reading, printing, and filing transcription. Facilitates patient/physician encounters.

Job responsibilities:

1. Schedules patient appointments and procedures. Maintains the patient recall system. Schedules follow-up visits and procedures as directed by a physician or non-physician provider.

2. Obtains authorization for testing, imaging and specialty referrals.

3. Corresponds with referring offices and patients regarding scheduled appointment dates and times. Provides instruction for scheduled procedures and directions to the office.

4. Answers telephones; responds to routine inquiries, takes and distributes messages and routes calls. Communicates frequently and effectively with clinical staff and physicians to facilitate patient through put.

5. Prepares charts for patient visits and physician review. Obtains all necessary documentation, dictated chart notes, diagnostic testing results, laboratory results and correspondence from other institutions. Keeps patients' charts updated with current clinical information.

6. Documents all interactions with other institutions, physicians, and patients in an accurate and concise manner.

7. Submits requisitions for office supplies, maintains a clean and organized work environment.

8. Performs other delegated duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Experience in a medical office preferred.
