Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The primary purpose of this organizational unit is to provide total financial management of essential goods and services to our students, faculty, staff and other clientele. This unit meets the needs through the self-supported operations, servicing individuals and supporting the institution's mission. Auxiliary and Business Service departments including Auxiliary Administration, Venue Reservations, Book Store, Food Service, Mail Room, One Card, Ticket Office, Royalties Management, and Property Rental. |
Description of Work |
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the management and operations of the institutional revenue producing business departments and activities. This position plans and directs the activities of the University's Auxiliary and Business Services to support University users and develop policies and procedures to establish and maintain compliance. This position provides leadership and guidance for Auxiliary Administration, Venue Reservations and Conferences, Book Store, Food Service, Mail Services, One Card (Viking ID Services), Ticket Office, Royalties Management, and Property Rental. The Director ensures these services support the institution's mission, meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff, and operate with financial sustainability and high customer satisfaction. |
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Possess knowledge of accounting and auditing procedures; Ability to analyze financial sales and commission revenue trends.
Possess knowledge of the processes, trends, and best practices in the auxiliary services industry.
Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Possess the ability to communicate effectively with both oral and written instructions with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
Possess computer and management skills. Must possess a working knowledge of University policies and procedures.
Must possess organizational skills to adequately manage simultaneous projects and supervisory responsibilities. |
Minimum Training and Experience |
Possess a bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field with two years of managerial experience in retail and/or a combination of education and experience. |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |

Management Preferences |
- Five years of related experience, including three years of managerial experience in a university bookstore and/or food service operation
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent
- Ability to develop leadership training and employee training programs.
- Ability to work in a diverse, collaborative, and team-oriented environment.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends or special times as assigned.
