Position Summary

This position will provide key scientific and systems support to the dean of the College of Engineering in the development and preparation of research. This will entail working with teams of PhD-level researchers and staff to conceptualize and draft research proposals. This position will also help craft research protocols. Recruit, supervise, and/or train other research staff or students.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Help identify scientific gaps and link with high yield high value funding opportunities.
  • Promote research opportunities to leadership and engage researchers to conceptualize and develop responsive grant applications.
  • Write, edit, and proofread research proposals, including research strategy components and supporting documents (biosketches, letters of support, institutional documents).
  • Write, edit, and proofread manuscripts and scientific abstracts (with potential role as lead or co-author) for peer-reviewed journals and professional research meetings in compliance with protocols for animal and human subjects.
  • Prepare figures from existing data. Make charts, tables, and graphs from numeric data.
  • Design diagrams to conceptualize ideas and assemble panels into figures.
  • Work directly with principal investigators, sponsor investigators, industry sponsors, and research administration to develop research protocols.
  • Develop and maintain research records, grant information, research notes, and resource utilization.
  • Plan, assign, and review staff work to ensure that sponsor and research objectives are met. Hire, train, develop, and manage research staff or students as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • PhD in Engineering or closely related field
    • A minimum of 5 years of research experience
    • Grant and manuscript writing experience
