However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions, or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, and will be notified of instructions.

Duties and Responsibilities |
- As well as enabling each student to experience the full benefit of the educational program, counselors are responsible for taking all reasonable precautions and actions to ensure the safety and well-being of the student participants in the program.
- Counselors will be on duty when students check in the dorm. Each counselor must be available on the day students arrive for the program, usually Sunday. Position duties include providing counsel for students; maintaining a check-out system for students so that their whereabouts are known; developing and conducting recreational and diversionary (enrichment and hobby) activities; consulting with other counselors and program coordinators on policies, procedures and problems encountered; and providing preventive maintenance for student difficulties.
- The primary function of counselors is to work cooperatively with other counselors and program staff to maintain a safe and positive learning environment for the students. Toward the end, counselors must be committed to enforcing the published guidelines for student conduct during the program.
- Counselors provides a liaison between the academic activities of the program and the residence life components. These activities and components include attendance at academic classes to which students under your direction are assigned maintenance of check-out policies used by the Summer Ventures Program and class attendance rolls, involvement in testing of the students and the career counseling as scheduled.
- Other responsibilities similar to the ones described here may be expected.
- Counselors must be responsible at all times for keeping the Head Residence Counselor informed of their whereabouts by using a check-in/check-out system.
- The student participants and Head Residence Counselor must have a means of locating any particular counselor when they need one.
- One of the main responsibilities of residence hall counselors is to have regular (at least weekly) and unannounced room checks to ensure that students are cleaning their rooms and that students are held responsible for damage to furniture, walls, and other fixtures in the dorm.

All counselors are required to become "Approved"
UNC Charlotte van drivers. To become an "Approved" van driver, all counselors must ( 1) have a valid N.C. Driver's license; (2) successfully pass (no more than 4 incorrect answers) an online exam on van driving procedures. |
