8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This Facility Maintenance Technician Mechanical Trades position is at the journey level, and is considered to be a fully functioning in a particular trade area.. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, installation, of facility components in assigned shop. This position may also be given the opportunity to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the journey or contributing level.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain, operate, and repair boilers.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, efficiently, and do no deteriorate.
  • Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair electrical boilers.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

Other Work Responsibilities

  • Act as a Journey level worker and provide assistance with other maintenance technicians to maintain, operate chillers, cooling towers and pumps on the hydronic system.
  • Work with minimal supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
  • Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support all operations.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • 2-4 years' experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in boilers.
  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, and willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
  • Valid driver's license required. The RUP Shop position requires the operation of assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
