Job Overview

Our UX Copywriter will develop strategic, meaningful, and persuasive copy that effectively guides users through Macy's site and app experiences. You will own the copywriting process from initial discovery work through production and implementation, and play a critical role in shaping our customer experience by crafting clear, concise, and engaging content. Drawing from rich customer insights and your own curiosity about what motivates shoppers, you'll craft nuanced copy that builds on our brand strategy by showing that Macy's understands what customers want and need from us. You're curious, innovative, and a conceptual thinker who thrives on the collaboration and healthy debate required to make great work.

What You Will Do



  • Writes clear, concise, and compelling copy that simplify the customer experience and keeps users engaged, while minimizing errors and confusion
  • Uses writing skills and content design knowledge to maintain consistent voice and tone across all product content, ensuring alignment with our overall brand identity.
  • Develop and implement forward-thinking content strategies that support user needs and align with business goals and brand objectives across digital touchpoints
  • Optimize copy for usability and accessibility, ensuring that content is easy to understand, action-oriented, and accessible to all users.
  • Implement best practices for SEO where applicable and use data to continuously optimize and improve content effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with designers, researchers, product managers, and developers - influences and adapts to stakeholders and their feedback
  • Plans, prioritizes, and organizes a high volume of work and coordinate to meet deadlines
  • Proofreads and self-edits to deliver work that is accurate, accessible, and be open to share your work and thought process with team members



Skills You Will Need

UX Writing & Content Design: Ability to write clear, concise, and compelling interface copy (e.g., dialogs, tooltips, error messages) that enhances usability and guides users effectively through digital experiences.

Content Strategy: Strong strategic thinking to develop and implement content approaches that align with business objectives and user needs across the entire customer journey.

User-Centered Design: Deep understanding of UX/UI principles and how content fits into the larger design system to deliver intuitive, user-first experiences.

Accessibility: Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices, including writing content that works with screen readers and supports inclusive design.

Data-Driven Decision Making: Familiarity with user testing, usability research, and analytics to inform copy decisions and continuously improve content effectiveness.

SEO Optimization: Ability to apply SEO best practices where appropriate to enhance content discoverability and performance.

Collaboration: Exceptional collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with designers, researchers, product managers, and developers in a fast-paced environment.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to explain content decisions, align with brand voice, and influence stakeholder direction.

Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage high volumes of work, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.

Tool Proficiency: Proficient in Figma and familiar with UI wireframing and other tools used in the digital product development lifecycle.

Adaptability: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, remaining flexible and proactive within an agile, iterative development environment.

Conceptual Thinking: Innovative and creative thinker who can explore multiple solutions and help define new processes that shape the overall user experience.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 3-5 years of UX copywriting experience, online retail preferred.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
