Temporary 4-H Program Assistant - Division for Land-Grant Engagement

Description

The Division for Land-Grant Engagement is currently accepting applications for a 4-H Program Assistant. Under supervision and guidance of county program coordinator, this position will conduct formal and informal educational programs and teach in the 4-H youth development program unit.

What you'll do:



  • Recruit, train and perform vetting for 4-H programs in adherence with the WVUES Youth Protection Policies.
  • Provide programming to reach youth utilizing curriculum and other 4-H educational programs.
  • Provide leadership to the county-wide 4-H program, both youth and volunteers, to include fairs, festivals and 4-H camping.
  • Will assist with management of 4-H volunteers in Mingo County.
  • Will assist director of Mingo County 4-H camps. -
  • Will travel independently within the communities of Mingo County to meet the needs of youth including occasional transportation of youth to both local and state events.


Pay Grade: 12

Length of Assignment: 2 months

Work Hours: 37.5 hours

Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • A minimum of six (6) months of work or volunteer experience with 4-H program.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to provide support and leadership for 4- H education programs and child development programs.
  • Knowledge of youth development programs.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong willingness to grow in computer skills that is related to the 4-H program.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, and collaborate with colleagues, families, and youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to form positive working relationships staff, faculty, community organizations, and program users.
  • Ability to work with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to achieve the program's long-range strategic goals.
  • Ability to travel as needed, which may include occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to attend conferences, professional development, county events, and summer residential 4-H camping with overnight stays is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 30 lbs. needed to conduct training and perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to pass the WVU Driver's Safety Training exam.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass WVUES Background and youth protection screening Physical Demands & Physical Coordination.
