Description

The C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry at West Virginia University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor starting August 15, 2025. This is a 9-month, full-time, position with full benefits.

The C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry provides the opportunity for students to become leaders in all fields of chemistry. There are lecture and laboratory courses in the general areas of analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, in addition to more specialized courses. Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in research with faculty mentors, developing the ability to understand complex concepts and apply problem solving skills to contemporary chemical problems. Graduate student researchers work independently in their chosen fields in addition to teaching undergraduate laboratory courses. The Department consists of 10 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 teaching faculty, and about 55 graduate students, organized around traditional and cross-cutting research areas. Responsibilities:

The teaching load is four (4) courses per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes that support current offerings in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty teaching similar courses to ensure consistency in curricular policies and student experience. The candidate will be expected to serve the community, university, and profession.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Chemistry or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have their PhD in hand by August 2025.

The successful applicant must demonstrate the potential to develop and teach courses in Introductory Chemistry and/or Analytical Chemistry. In addition, the candidate must have demonstrated excellent teaching skills, the ability to teach large undergraduate courses, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
