JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is seeking an experienced and skilled Commercial Painter for preparing surfaces, applying various finishes to patient and non-patient areas and campus buildings, and ensuring a high-quality, durable paint job; attention to detail skills. Prefer one (1) year work experience as a painter in a commercial, academic institution, or hospital/healthcare setting.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in the following:



  • Surface Preparation - cleaning, repairing, and preparing surfaces for painting, sanding, filling cracks, and removing old paint.
  • Multiple Painting Techniques - applying various painting techniques, including brushing, rolling, and spraying, to different surface types such as walls, ceilings, and exteriors.
  • Quality Control - inspect completed work for quality, performing touch-ups, and ensuring a professional finish.
  • Material Handling - Mixing and matching paints and finishes according to project specifications, protecting surrounding areas, and maintaining and cleaning paint equipment.
  • Project Management - collaborating with team members, adhering to safety regulations, and accommodating client needs by working during non-business hours or weekends when needed.
  • Communication Skills - Understanding instructions, discussing job specifications, and coordinating with the team members.


This position works under direct supervision to perform skilled work in painting.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations when needed.

Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; may require overtime on rare occasion.

    High School Diploma or vocational school, or equivalent.


Preferred



  • Experience
    <1 year Six months experience as a painter in a commercial, institution or healthcare setting

JOB DUTIES



  • Prepares surfaces for paint, using sandpaper, steel wool, wire brushes, or paint remover. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putt, plaster, or other filler.
  • Selects premixed paint or matches paint to specified colors. Applies paints, varnishes, shellacs, enamels, or other finishes.
  • Erects scaffolding when necessary, and spreads cloths over floor and furniture to protect from splattered paint. Removes splattered paint upon completion of job.
  • Cleans and cares for brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
  • Assists in determining and maintains time and material records for each job.
  • May repair vinyl, ceramic, and carpet tiles.
  • May install and repair vinyl cove base.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
