CBIZ is seeking a strategic and results-driven Tax Transformation Leader to join our internal transformation team. This role is critical in advancing our vision to build a scalable, technology-enabled organization that fosters innovation, ensures operational excellence, and drives sustainable growth and market leadership. As part of this mission, you will collaborate with Tax Operations, Internal Technology, and other key stakeholders to identify, define, and deliver innovative solutions to drive efficiency, scalability, data-driven insights, and tax advisory capabilities. The ideal candidate will balance domain and technology expertise with strategic vision, effectively setting expectations, managing third-party vendor relationships, and leading a high-performing team. This role demands deep tax process knowledge and the ability to drive innovation through automation, AI, analytics, and workflow optimization. The expectation will be to develop an environment where we can leverage data-driven insights and technology to enhance the tax function's strategic advisory value. This includes developing frameworks for more effective data use, streamlining workflows, and focusing on high-impact tax advisory initiatives to support broader business objectives. The ideal candidate should have 10+ years of experience in both tax technology and tax compliance/advisory, within a multinational organization or professional services organization. Essential Functions and Primary Duties
Roadmap Development: Collaborate with Tax and Internal Technology to develop a comprehensive roadmap, identifying, prioritizing, defining, and delivering innovative solutions that provide the greatest business impact for our organization. Strategy and Objectives: Partner with Tax to define and set the Tax Transformation strategy, set objectives and key results (OKRs), and establish key performance indicators (KPIs). Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization. Set and meet expectations with stakeholders on deliverables and drive communication to keep stakeholders well-informed on progress towards goals. Business Cases Development and ROI Measurement: Develop comprehensive business cases for proposed tax transformation initiatives with detailed cost and return on investment (ROI) analysis, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and demonstrating the value and impact. Enterprise System Guidance: Work closely with the tax department to help navigate them through all enterprise initiatives by heavily leveraging domain expertise and technology expertise to ensure enterprise systems being delivered by Internal IT have outcomes that are focused, thoughtful and optimal. Business Unit Collaboration: Collaborate extensively with peer technology transformation teams, to ensure that innovations and solutions are considered for cross platform usage and are maximized for optimal yet appropriate consumption throughout the organization. Data-Driven Insights & Advisory Enablement: Collaborate with our Business Intelligence & AI teams to implement advanced analytics, automation, and AI-driven solutions to empower tax teams with actionable insights that enhance strategic decision making. Process Standardization & Optimization: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and standardize tax processes leveraging offshore resources, automation, process reengineering and advanced workflow technologies to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. Team Management and Development: Build, manage, and develop a high-performing team. This includes hiring, mentoring, and upskilling team members to enhance their technical expertise and strategic thinking. You will empower the team by providing clear direction, performance expectations, and opportunities for professional growth. Project Management: Lead cross-functional teams, ensuring transformation initiatives are delivered on time, within scope and budget. Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage day-to-day relationships with external vendors and technology partners to ensure delivery of high-quality solutions and services. Change Management: Develop and implement change management strategies to ensure smooth adoption of new technologies and processes within the tax function. Innovation Leadership: Champion innovation by continuously evaluating and advising on new technologies, staying updated with industry trends, and providing thought leadership to senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in tax transformation/technology and tax compliance/advisory.
- Prior public accounting experience with a mid to large organization(s).
- Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders concurrently.
- Advanced knowledge of major tax platforms such as those produced by Thomson Reuters and CCH.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to think strategically while also driving tactical execution.
- Experience in leading, growing, and enhancing a transformation teams.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree required
- 8 years of experience in public accounting or related field
- 6 years supervisory experience
- Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
- Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
- Proficient use of applicable technology
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
- Proven high level of business integrity, client service, and leadership skills
- Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
The annual salary target for this job in this market is $275,000-$350,000. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, and skill set of the individual selected for this position. The compensation above is not representative of an employee's total compensation.
