Overview

Foster a shared understanding of strategic goals and objectives to align initiatives with financial resources and impact. To plan and manage the division's finance function to drive a "one-division" approach for operations and strategic business decisions. Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the business unit regarding financial performance. Support senior management in developing and executing strategic plans. Enable partnerships with delivery functions to provide capabilities, services, and tools to ensure successful delivery of the organization's key initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the review of all division investment proposals with a focus on strategic, return on investment, and financial implications across the organization; prepare reports and presentations for routine leadership updates
  • Collaborate with various divisions to vet and implement new projects focusing on an Enterprise mindset.
  • Analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to senior management for decision making purposes
  • Implement new analysis, reporting, etc. that allow for clear understanding of drivers resulting in outcomes across the balance sheet, operating expenses, and income, in partnership with Lending and Enterprise Teams, to support strategic decision making at the most senior executive levels
  • Build and maintain relationships with lines of business, team members, management, key stakeholders and/or external contacts (e.g., vendors, etc.)
  • Regularly share information to drive collective understanding of Lending's priorities, drivers of business outcomes, and areas of opportunities to create a collaborative environment in support of key initiatives
  • Create and implement process(es) for engaging in strategic financial management related to transformational work, i.e. Lean Business Cases, Value Realization
  • Leverage and design process(es) that enable proactive identification of obstacles and opportunities with proposed solutions
  • Incorporate business priorities, strategies, goals, emerging technologies, industry trends and economic viability into proposed solutions
  • Coach, mentor, and actively engage in developing the analysts on the team to a build a mature strategic finance function and a team that can flex for varying needs and in a high-paced environment.
  • Deliver and execute on employee engagement action plans which support growth and development of team members
  • Develop and empower team members, supporting decision making at the lowest level
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing feedback and support to improve individual and team performance.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of solutions against objectives by setting standards, providing governance, enforcing accountability, and setting the pace of transformation
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of current and future business needs.
  • Contribute perspectives and ideas from relevant sources; keep current with emerging technology, government/policy impacts and industry best practices by researching marketplace/industry trends
  • Monitor line of business innovation efforts and drive collaboration
  • Identify areas for improvement, provide recommendations for addressing issues, implement new strategies, and promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Report key strategic financial metrics, including profitability metrics, sensitivity analysis and cost/benefit trade-off outlines to senior management to inform strategic business decision
  • Develop frameworks for new initiatives, including evaluations for what success looks like, metrics for tracking, and a review/recommendation process for future projects
  • Provide insight to senior management regarding impacts of external and internal environment changes on the profitability of different products/services/channels
  • Prepare summaries, analyses, reports, charts, graphs, instructions, and manuals/reference materials for inclusion in ad hoc and required reports
  • Serve as liaison with internal colleagues/contacts to resolve financial issues and/or business process changes
  • Lead or participate in organization-wide project teams
  • Seek feedback for opportunities to enhance service levels and implement changes in response
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and Navy Federal policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external documentation and disclosure requirements
  • Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities
    o Ensure adequate/skilled staffing; select employees
    o Establish performance goals and priorities
    o Prepare, conduct and review performance appraisals
    o Develop, mentor and counsel staff
    o Provide input and/or prepare budget requirements for Annual Financial Plan (AFP)
    o Ensure section/branch goals and objectives align with division/department strategy
    o Ensure efficiency of operations
    o Leadership Level - Supervise daily activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in leading and managing a financial analytics operation, preferably with a focus in accounting or planning for a large financial services organization
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products and services
  • Significant experience in the application of statistical methods, mathematical techniques, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis and related analytical tools
  • Advanced skill working with financial accounting systems used in the management and analysis of financial data
  • Significant experience interpreting and applying accounting principles
  • Significant experience applying techniques used in analyzing and reporting financial information
  • Significant experience in delivering presentations to virtual and in person teams
  • Advanced skill building effective relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy and tact
  • Significant experience managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
  • Significant experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors
  • Advanced skill to influence, negotiate & persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
  • Advanced skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
  • Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Advanced analytical thinking skills to include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results or relationships
  • Advanced skill to effectively manage a remote distributed workforce across multiple locations and time zones
  • Expert research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information clearly and concisely
  • Expert skill producing desired results and achieving goals and objectives

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
