Job Summary

Serves as a key member of the Museum's team, managing and executing communication strategy, media relations, public relations and print and digital outreach efforts for the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University. Develops and manages a diverse portfolio of marketing and communications projects that promote a dynamic roster of exhibitions and programs, world-class collections, innovative scholarly and creative initiatives, and forward-looking advancement efforts to multiple audiences. Coordinates communications efforts and workflows across the Museums and will work closely with Florida International University's Office External Relations, Strategic Communications and Marketing.

  • Understands and communicates institutional mission, values, and content to both general and target markets to drive attendance, stimulate revenue, and diversify audiences and customer/client base. Ensures that messages are clear, compelling, consistent, and effective.
  • Generates media coverage of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum and by cultivating business relationships with the media and monitoring trends in arts/culture. Pitches stories to appear in print, electronic, and online media. Organizes media previews and visits, including event flow, attendance, and spokesperson talking points.
  • Writes/edits, and distributes press releases, media advisories, images, and fact sheets. Oversees archiving of media clippings and maintain database of media contacts.
  • Serves as a liaison with External Relations to obtain approval for press releases, drafts press releases for review, distributes approved press releases to press contracts
  • Researches and develops new media contacts. Researches, proposes, and implements new ways of marketing the museums.
  • Identifies print marketing opportunities and creates regular schedule for advertising with key partners
  • Evaluates website content, proposes and supervises implementation of website updates, working with museum staff to assure that there is brand consistency and alignment with the university
  • Develops compelling, innovative, and integrated digital marketing and promotional campaigns, including utilizing online services and social media that support the promotion of fundraising campaigns, exhibitions, programming, and special events.
  • Utilizes a variety of digital platforms including search engines, social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram), paid online advertising, and individual site placements
  • Assists Museum Directors with talking points for media and stays abreast with trends in the community and the local and national art world.
  • Oversees the social media strategy and implementation to ensure comprehensive digital marketing campaigns across all channels. Established and communicates standard operation procedures (SOPs) in this area.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
  • Manage and update museum events using Eventbrite, a third-party system for event publication and promotion.
  • Serves as the merchant account's primary contact or technical contact; Handles sensitive cardholder information and/or processes credit cards transactions for the department/unit; Will have access to a third party system (software, gateway, etc.) that processes, transmits, and/or stores cardholder information.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Media/Public Relations, Communications or appropriate degree and three (3) years of experience in a related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with social networking platforms: e.g. Facebook Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc., and ability to maintain regular communication via social media, including understanding proper messaging formats, techniques and strategies unique to each social media platform
  • Experience using a content management system and/or MailChimp, and Adobe Creative Suite are a plus.
  • Candidate should be able to write professionally and creatively.
