Job Summary:

The Senior Director serves as ex-officio secretary and primary liaison for Goodwill's Board of Directors and provides strategic, operational, and project oversight and execution to enhance the activities of the Office of the CEO (OCEO) and ensure the delivery of superior services consistent with the values of Goodwill of North Georgia.

The Senior Director is responsible for developing and delivering the overall engagement strategy for the Board of Directors and Committees (~50%), facilitating, creating and managing accurate analyses, reporting, and development of the Strategic Plan (~25%), leading and delivering miscellaneous OCEO projects and activities, including day-to-day management of the OCEO (~15%), and providing agency-wide project management standard operating procedures, tools, and guidance (~10%).

Essential Functions:



  • Facilitate and execute meeting plans, work plans and action calendars for the Board of Directors (BOD) and BOD Committees with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
  • Arrange and manage all aspects of the Board of Director meetings/annual retreat, including meeting notice, event schedule, development and approval of presentations, a/v support, technical requirements, meals, transportation, on site production, emergency and safety precautions, and meeting requirements, as applicable
  • Partner with BOD and agency Staff on agenda development to align BOD decision-making around institutional priorities and Board duties, while ensuring an adequate balance of Board discussion and Staff report-outs; create process for BOD consideration of relevant issues and ensure BOD involvement is timely and well-supported
  • Prepare and distribute timely, accurate content for Board of Directors, Board of Directors Committee presentations, related documents, information, virtual boardroom website, and follow-up notes; continually improve information-sharing with the BOD including using dashboard metrics and other visuals to assist the Board in their fiduciary duties
  • Provide strategic recommendations on various BOD topics, including Board engagement
  • Support Board recruitment activities, maintaining active service records, candidate bios, and expertise matrix
  • Create a process for Board leadership development including courses, readings, and/or committee service required to increase leadership capacity on the Board and encourage additional engagement and learning
  • Partner with General Counsel and others to ensure accurate and up-to-date bylaws and other policies, procedures and governance records
  • Draft Resolutions for Board approval
  • Ensure the President and other Executive Staff are apprised of developments in BOD and committees to support Strategic Plan
  • Facilitate and lead the development of quantitative and qualitative metrics that are responsive to the goals of the Strategic Plan and the wider agency goals
  • Gather data, research and consolidate issues, summarize information and make recommendations with relevant stakeholders to advance the agency's Strategic Plan
  • Consolidate input and communicate Strategic Plan progress, using various software
  • Manage OCEO Project Coordinator, including providing day-to-day guidance, feedback and regular check-ins to ensure projects and activities are progressing according to established timelines; provide support to remove barriers, and model leadership capabilities aligned to GNG values
  • Serve as indirect leader to Assistant to the CEO and provide guidance in CEO's absence
  • Review, edit, and provide feedback to the Assistant to the CEO in the development and maintenance of the OCEO budget; own the Board Relations and Strategic Plan budget
  • Partner with COO to administer the OCEO Internal Customer survey, summarize the results, and lead the development of actions to elevate the OCEO collective performance
  • Create agency-wide project management operating procedures, tools and governance templates; model project management capabilities, including cross-functional coordination to ensure efficiency and project effectiveness
  • Provide leadership and facilitation in the resolution of strategic and sensitive issues or projects; recommend solutions and minimize risks to the President/CEO
  • May represent the President/CEO in meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the President/CEO and Board of Directors


Job Requirements and Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university; postgraduate degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of board, consulting, and/or executive experience with demonstrated experience in board procedures and other formal communications protocol
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office and the demonstrated ability to produce professional, accurate, and timely business reports and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand organizational dynamics and influence stakeholders using a variety of methods beyond positional authority, high degree confidentiality and professionalism
  • Promote the growth and development of others
  • Energetic and excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build and sustain strong, cohesive and trusting working relationships across a variety of stakeholders and sets tone that fosters integrity, respect, and fair treatment
  • Highly adept at managing change and ambiguity

  • Excellent project management skills, with experience designing and implementing project management and governance tools, templates, and procedures
  • Possess strong business judgment and the ability to solve problems, establish work priorities, coordinate multiple projects, and serve seamlessly in multiple capacities, including strategic, tactical, and administrative functions
  • Establish work priorities, resolving prioritization conflicts through proactive communication with the President/CEO
  • Highly dependable, excellent work ethic with flexibility in hours and work locations across greater service area to accommodate the needs of the President/CEO and BOD


Working Environment Conditions/Requirements:



  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodations
  • Must be in person at the GNG Support Center at least 3x/week with full-time availability
  • Must be able to safely operate a vehicle, have a valid driver's license, maintain a good driving record, and travel to all designated locations to assist in meetings, conferences, and other events
  • Access to reliable, dependable transportation and mobile communication device
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements to perform all duties, including transporting and carrying materials and supplies to all designated locations to assist in meetings, conferences, and other events
