Day Camp Counselor

**This is a Temporary position from June 2nd - August 6th, pay range of $11.50 - $12/hr**

Summary/Primary Purpose: This position protects, guides, stimulates, and helps the children in our program. This position shares in developing our programs and program procedures. This position becomes the counselor, teacher, spiritual leader, confidante, and role model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Attend general staff training and meetings, and complete initial training.
2. Help prepare for daily lessons.
3. Assist the leaders and participate in all facets of the program: recreation, snack, craft, pool, fieldtrips, etc.
4. Help prepare snacks and meals.
5. Enforce and adhere to The Salvation Army policies, including no swearing, no alcoholic drinking, no drug use, no smoking/vaping, and no violence.
6. Assist the leaders with progressive disciplinary procedures when needed.
7. Check out and check in equipment, putting items away in the proper place.
8. Basic cleaning as needed to include sweeping, wiping off tables, spot mopping spills, empty garbage cans and other cleaning duties as assigned.
9. Report accidents to the leaders.
10. Comply with Safe From Harm policies.
11. Assist in camp clean-up at the close of each camp, in preparation for the next group. Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
12. Assist in opening and closing procedures including: opening and locking doors, turning on and off lights and equipment, getting out and putting away equipment.
13. Help plan physical activities.
14. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
2. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
3. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Employee may be occasionally required to engage in rigorous activities involved with participating in recreational activities with children. Must be able to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and run. Must be able to lift a child up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Must be able to keep up with children who are full of energy. Must be able to frequently be in the sun and outside in varying weather conditions. Noise level is moderate to loud.
