The expected hiring range for this position is:

$109,100.00-$154,967.00.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

About the Role:

The Construction Safety Manager for PIP-II plays a key role in developing, implementing, and evaluating the Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) programs, procedures, and standards for the PIP-II project at Fermilab. This position collaborates with stakeholders to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and Department of Energy (DOE) regulations and standards and effectively coordinates construction safety management with the Fermilab ESH Division.

What your day-to-day as a Construction Safety Manager for PIP II at Fermilab will look like:

PIP-II Specific Duties:

  • Providing ESH guidance and interpret the Fermilab Environment Safety and Health Manual (FESHM), Fermilab Radiological Control Manual, 10CFR 851.
  • Reviewing and approving construction subcontractors' Corporate Safety Plans, Site Specific Safety Plans, and Experience Modification Rate (EMR) documentation.
  • Reviewing and accepting 10 CFR 851 compliance documentation and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Arranging and delivering Fermilab-specific ESH training for subcontractors.
  • Reviewing and approving subcontractor work plans, hazard analyses, and training documentation.
  • Collaborating with subcontractors on ESH matters and deliver subcontractor hazard analysis training.
  • Serving as the point of contact for accident investigations.
  • Integrate with DOE project personnel and participate in DOE and Fermilab program reviews.
  • Attending subcontractor daily planning and weekly progress meetings.
  • Leading walkthrough tours, track progress, and report status.
  • Staying current on Fermilab-required training.
  • Leading Coordination efforts between subprojects on the PIPII project.

Fermilab Programmatic Duties:

  • Develop, monitor, and control ESH policies and programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and DOE orders.
  • Lead audits, site inspections, and accident investigations, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for management and DOE, analyzing data and providing observations.
  • Offer guidance to ESH staff, line personnel, subcontractors, and project managers on complex ESH issues.
  • Select, install, and monitor ESH equipment as required.
  • Supervise assigned personnel, reviewing performance and ensuring appropriate training.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Bachelor's degree in an ESH discipline or a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Managerial, Environmental Protection, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and/or Quality Assurance expertise.
  • Preferred certifications: Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Environmental Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Construction Health and Safety Technician, Certified ESH Trainer, Certified Health Physicist, ASQ certifications, or similar.

Work Arrangement:

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
