POSITION SPECIFICS

The College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State is seeking an Instructional Designer to join their collaborative, cross-functional Office of Learning Design (LD).

The Office of Learning Design supports courses delivered in-residence, online, and in other formats. Our designers collaborate with and aid faculty with the development, revision, and delivery of their courses. We offer faculty development in a variety of formats and venues. Our team contributes to the larger community at Penn State and beyond through developing strategic partnerships and leading critical projects and committees.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will:

  • Provide the highest quality consultation to faculty and other subject matter experts on the design and development of our growing offerings of resident, blended, and distance learning courses.

  • Support active and collaborative learning in undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

  • Partner with a team of faculty and specialists to bring innovative learning solutions to life.

  • Advocate for the students' perspective, including our adult learner population, as it applies to their learning.

  • Continually build upon their foundational knowledge of learning science and instructional design to advance the College's teaching and learning efforts.

The successful candidate will have a proven history of:

  • Designing innovative, technology-assisted learning artifacts.

  • Collaborating with faculty in higher education.

  • Managing multiple concurrent and complex projects.

  • Applying excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with current learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), generative AI tools, accessibility standards and remediation, and quality frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters) is desirable. Experience with faculty development and teaching is a plus.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
