Job Description:

Collaborate with investigators and research teams to develop an understanding of needs and to define key objectives and aims. Manage and execute research projects. Research and devise innovative statistical models for data analysis, collaborating with statisticians as needed. Participate in an iterative research process by discussing findings with investigators, research teams, and other stakeholders and modifying models and analyses based upon discussion. Enable smarter data analysis processes and implements analytics for meaningful insights. Work as the lead data Scientist, identifying and integrating new datasets that can be leveraged throughout the department/organization. Identify relevant data sources to help address research needs and collect large structured and unstructured datasets and variables. Work closely with the investigators, research teams and other stakeholders to strategize and execute the development of datasets. Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine data stores, perform data and error analysis to improve models, and clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy. Analyze data for trends and patterns and interpret data with a clear objective in mind. Implement analytical models into production by collaborating with other stakeholders. Communicate analytic solutions to investigators, research teams and other stakeholders and implement improvements as needed. Assist with preparation of proposals, presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and other dissemination materials.

Job Requirements:



  1. Master's degree in statistics, applied mathematics, or related discipline.
  2. Five (5) years of progressive experience in data science, including health service research with a focus on racial and gender disparity.
  3. Additional experience must include:

    • data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis, including machine learning techniques such as neural networks and random forests;
    • pattern recognition and predictive modeling, with hands-on experience in implementing machine learning models and algorithms;
    • R and SAS for statistical analysis, specializing in survival and longitudinal analysis;
    • SQL and familiarity with AWS platform;
    • data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, ggplot2, plotly, leaflet, tmap), with a strong emphasis on visualizing all types of data, particularly geospatial data;
    • R Shiny for creating dashboards and Swift for building iOS apps;
    • HTML and JavaScript for website building;
    • SQL for database management;
    • Excel and PowerPoint for reporting and presentation.


  4. Must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
