Information System Security Officer (ISSO)

NS2 Mission is seeking an experienced Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to support our team at our headquarters in Chantilly, VA. The ISSO will work closely with the ISSM to develop and maintain a comprehensive information security program, ensuring policy compliance and operational effectiveness within their assigned area of responsibility.

This is a full-time, on-site role (Monday-Friday).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the ISSM in developing, implementing, and maintaining formal information security policies, documentation, and procedures.

  • Assist in the management and execution of IT, Information Assurance (IA), and Information Management (IM) requirements for classified corporate assets in accordance with ICD-503 and NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) governance.

  • Ensure security compliance of automated information systems through implementation of appropriate controls and security measures.

  • Support the creation, documentation, and approval processes for classified network systems, including:

    • System Security Plans (SSP)

    • Security Requirements Traceability Matrix (SRTM)

    • Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M)

    • Concept of Operations (CONOPS)

  • Assist in documenting system security engineering activities and workflows in ServiceNow (SNOW).

  • Ensure compliance with IT component control and disposition across their lifecycle (introduction, use, disposition), adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and directives.

  • Collaborate with IT teams to apply RMF structure for identifying, assessing, and managing system risks.

  • Partner with logistics, IT, and security to maintain a real-time inventory of IT components approved for government use.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to support insider threat program requirements for government information systems.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with asset/system stakeholders to address security threats, vulnerabilities, and environmental considerations.

  • Interface regularly with government representatives to ensure security controls meet or exceed compliance requirements.

  • Monitor systems and maintain processes to identify, track, and mitigate vulnerabilities.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for day-to-day system security, ensuring appropriate operational posture.

  • Perform secure data transfers in accordance with policy.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering; or a combination of related work experience, technical training, and professional certifications in lieu of a degree.

  • DoD 8570 IAM Level I Certification (e.g., CAP, CND, Cloud+, GSLC, Security+).

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with:

    • The Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process per ICD-501, ICD-502, ICD-503, and CNSSI 1253.

    • Development of SSPs, SRTMs, CONOPS, and other RMF documentation.

    • Conducting and interpreting system scans.

    • ServiceNow (SNOW), XACTA 360, or similar tools for enterprise risk management, particularly in cloud environments.

  • Strong experience managing deliverables with minimal oversight.

  • Solid understanding of information security principles and risk management practices.

  • Familiarity with NIST 800-series Special Publications.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to incorporate new information effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Prior experience as a Data Transfer Officer (DTO) is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in:

    • Computer Science

    • Computer Engineering

    • Cyber Security

  • DoD 8570 IAM Level II Certification (e.g., CAP, CASP+, CISM, CISSP, GSLC, CCISO).

  • Advanced technical writing and documentation skills.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, including gathering user input, analyzing issues, and implementing technical solutions.
