WBUH 5S NICU is a high-volume ICU with forty-five licensed beds. Our census over the last year continues to remain high. This unit provides care for severely ill newborn infants, ranging from extremely premature to post term babies. Babies typically have respiratory distress, cardiac defects, neurological problems and unstable multiple anomalies. This Assistant RN Manager, in collaboration with the Clinical RN Manager, supports the function of the charge nurse, and is primary resource to all RNs during the day and night shift. This role is pivotal in connecting leadership to the bedside and promoting patient family centered care. This role extends the influence of leadership presence on the unit and ensures all necessary tasks are completed at a unit level. Scope of work Under the direction of the nurse manager or other nursing leader, the assistant nurse manager has responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in the department.
