SUMMARY

Responsible for the comprehensive accounting functions of specific manufacturing processes with a strong emphasis on inventory control and variance analysis. Duties include recording, reporting, analyzing and communicating financial activity and results. Senior accountants are expected to work fairly independently to become the financial and accounting expert in his/her area.

ACCOUNTING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • This position operates with a minimum of direct supervision and requires a self-starter who works well individually and in a team environment.
  • Accountant for the Rigid Product Line.
  • Responsible for month end close, journal entries, and trial balance reviews.
  • Responsible for several monthly/quarterly account reconciliations.
  • Responsible for plant month end reports including variance analysis with detailed variance explanations.
  • Assist with the implementation of any new IT systems to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements generated by the business.
  • Assist in maintaining internal control and SOX compliance.
  • Design and prepare ad hoc reports as requested by Division Controller, Accounting Manager or other Compound Managers.
  • Support ad hoc business analysis and reporting requests from plant managers and/or other Compound Managers.
  • Support the annual budget process for the Rigid Product Line including the loading into the S4 system.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Responsible for daily routine accounting functions (invoice GL coding, ensuring DOA is being followed for all transactions, etc.).
  • Other projects and duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Accounting Manager.
  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with progressive technical and operational business experience preferably in a petrochemical or related field.
  • 4 to 5 + years of relevant experience in accounting related fields.
  • CPA and MBA are preferred.
  • ERP experience; strong preference for S4.
  • Strong financial analysis and cost accounting experience is preferred.
  • The individual must have a high degree of competency with spreadsheet programs, including Excel.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee occasionally lifts and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
