Job Title: Technical Writer

Onsite Requirement: New York, City. (A couple of days onsite required and travel to different sites.)

Hours: This is a variable hour, part-time position.

Job Summary: The Technical Writer will play a key role in documenting technical processes, system architectures, and standard operating procedures in support of enterprise data migrations, systems integrations, and software development initiatives. This role will collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences. The Technical Writer will contribute to compliance, training, and knowledge-sharing efforts by creating and maintaining high-quality documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for data migration strategies, including the transition from legacy systems (e.g., DB2) to modern databases (e.g., SQL Server).
  • Document system architectures, data models, integration layers, and API endpoints to support cross-functional engineering and development teams.
  • Create user guides, SOPs, quick reference materials, and technical manuals for internal platforms, ETL processes, and integration frameworks.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand documentation for various audiences, including stakeholders, compliance teams, and end users.
  • Collaborate with data architects, developers, and subject matter experts to gather information and ensure accuracy in technical deliverables.
  • Document security and compliance practices, including handling of PII, FERPA, encryption standards, and role-based access protocols.
  • Support the development of training materials and onboarding content for new systems and technologies.
  • Maintain version control and document updates in alignment with project timelines and system enhancements.


Requirements



  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Liberal Arts, etc.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Visio, Confluence, SharePoint, or equivalent documentation platforms.
  • Experience writing documentation for systems handling sensitive or regulated data (e.g., PII, FERPA) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and collaboration skills with the ability to interface with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with government or education sector environments, particularly DOE, is a plus.


Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $53.00 to $62.00 per hour benchmarked in the New York area. The target salary is $57.00 per hour for this role. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
