Are you an experienced interpreter looking to make a positive impact on your community? Look no further! New Hanover County is seeking a Spanish and English Language Interpreter for the Health and Human Services Agency. Responsibilities include assisting in carrying out language program activities and services on site; interpreting between customers and HHS staff both in the agency and various locations in the community; translations of various documents such as safety plans and program applications; addressing inquiries of the public regarding the operations and activities of programs and services available through the department; and performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Translates written documents from English to another language, based on area of assignment, and from that language to English that are culturally sensitive and linguistically accurate.
- Assists in carrying out program activities and services on site, via telephone, or through home visits.
- Ensures that interpretations are accurate, complete, and conveyed with clarity during interviews, meetings, appointments, and other interactions, maintaining impartiality and confidentiality.
- Maintains records of interpretation assignments, with dates and times and any relevant information regarding the interaction or its content.
- Assists individuals in understanding, completing, and accessing documents, services, and resources.
- Assists other teams with administrative support duties, as needed.
- Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Hours:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Must be available to work
8:00 AM - 6:00 PM on
Tuesdays.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Salary Information:,
The
hiring range
for this position is
$38,140 - $51,489.50.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications
-
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of language interpretation in the language required based on area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the specific position as listed above. Fully bilingual in oral interpretation and written translation of Spanish and English.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Driver's License and good driving record required at time of application.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
- Medical Interpreter Certification (all four levels of Interpreter certification) preferred.
- Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish
