Accounting Analyst - Financial Reporting General Summary:
Performs a variety of financial reporting functions, including preparing and reviewing various reports for internal or external parties in compliance with financial reporting requirements of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory agencies. Assists in the organization, maintenance and documentation of the Accounting policies and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in, and is responsible for, the accurate and timely preparation and/or review of various periodic reports for FHLB management, the Board of Directors, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and the Office of Finance including:
- Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K submissions to the SEC. - Monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc reports provided to/requested by management and the Board of Directors. - Monthly, quarterly and annual data provided to/requested by the FHFA for the call report system (CRS). - Quarterly and annual data and disclosure information in support of the FHLBank System Combined Financials as required by the Office of Finance. - Ad hoc requests from the above or other internal or external data/reporting requests. - Participates in the on-going maintenance and documentation of Accounting policies and procedures (Accounting Policy Guide), as well as the periodic monitoring of accounting developments (Financial Accounting Standards Board, SEC, etc.) in support of the above reporting functions and their related controls.
- Maintains updated knowledge of relevant accounting standards and regulations, which the FHLB is subject to, and assists in initial assessment and summary of new accounting standards.
- Interacts with other areas of FHLB personnel, external auditors, Office of Finance and other external agencies.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of accounting as acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and three or more years of experience.
- General knowledge of and ability to research, understand and apply SEC regulations, other regulatory requirements and GAAP.
- Maintains updated knowledge of rules, regulations and standards in the field of accounting.
- Analytical skills necessary to develop factual reports through data gathering, interpretation, compilation and analysis of information.
- Ability to work independently following established guidelines, with the ability to recognize unusual or complex situations including the ability to exercise professional skepticism and propose alternatives and implement solutions. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details under tight deadlines.
- Communication skills, including written and verbal, necessary to interact effectively with FHLB staff, external agencies and customers in providing or exchanging information. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- High level of proficiency in use of personal computer, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft applications. Knowledge of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) and Workiva software application is preferred.
