Title: Machine Shop Technician

Position Summary: Assists to support production efforts through the setup, design, program, and operation of metal fabrication machinery to create custom products used in higher level assemblies.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Machining Technician is responsible for performing tasks as directed which includes the following but is not limited to these tasks:



  • Use engineering documents to program or modify existing programs for various computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
  • Setup and operate drill, press brake, mill, and shear metal fab machinery.
  • Perform all completed part material marking requirements per drawing requirements related to ink mixing, silk screen processing, and stamping
  • Perform all insert and heli-coil installations using flex-arm or manual installation tooling
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of custom jigs and fixtures for fab part production.
  • Use of gauges, and machinists' hand tools, applying knowledge of tool and die designs and construction; shop mathematics; metal properties; and layout, machining, and assembly procedures
  • Verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Applies mastery of skills in adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment, as appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Identify and suggest various machinery that can be used to carry out relevant operations.
  • Ensure adequate raw materials, tooling, and consumable supplies are maintained.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks and pallet jacks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks, or trucks or storage facilities.
  • Produce materials within quality metrics and specifications.
  • Provides comprehensive knowledge and application of Deltek CostPoint and SBM systems
  • Assists in the training and development of team members, assigning daily tasking and ensuring schedule requirements are met.
  • Maintain, complete, and log all machinery preventative and scheduled maintenance.
  • Maintain safe operations and work environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Assist in general facility maintenance and clean-up.
  • Perform repetitive tasking over long periods of time with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good manual skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Perform Key Performance Indicators:

    • Meet production deadlines
    • Quality of finished product (Percent Defect Free)


  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements applicable to the company in accordance with State and Federal regulations and any applicable certification required to maintain the certification
  • Position requires the ability to coordinate several activities at the same time, and to reprioritize in response to changing operational conditions.

Basic Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in a machining environment with machine operating skills and responsibilities
  • Experience reading drawings and GD&T
  • Teamwork, Continuous Improvement, and Time Management Skills
  • Must be U.S. citizen and be able to obtain/maintain secret security clearance
  • Technical knowledge of engineering documents including engineering drawings, parts lists, and bills of material
  • Must demonstrate strong decision-making and leadership skills



Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:



  • Associate degree in a technical field or applicable job experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain CMM certification
  • Experience using CAD and CAM software
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Assist other hardware/production personnel as needed



Physical Requirements:



  • Lifting up to 40 lbs. up to 75% of time
  • Walking, Bending, Standing, Stooping up to 75% of time
  • Climbing: up to 25% of time



This position requires the ability to travel to various locations (up to 10% of time).
