Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the General Meter Service Centerlocated in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Engineering Technical Analyst is responsible for the development and enhancement of standards and materials, including emerging technologies, while continuing to meet all applicable regulatory rules and codes and solving problems for different work groups within compliance of all applicable rules. The position requires communication of these standards and direction to both engineers and operations in a concise manner that allows precise application of the standards and technology. The incumbent will support project engineering and design, product/process research and special projects within their assigned work unit.

This position will report to the Metering Technology Center (MTC) Technical Metering (TM) team manager. The designated work location will be at the MTC in Jackson Michigan. Approximately 20% of the work will require travel.

The role of the Engineering Technical Analyst will be to provide a variety of expert level technical support functions related to metering endpoints within our gas and electric service territories. In this capacity the Analyst must rely on their expert knowledge and experience to support existing operations and provide solutions which add value to the business.

The Engineering Technical Analyst will have considerable responsibility to ensure continuous compliance with MPSC and Consumers Energy regulatory and operational requirements as it pertains to our gas and electric billing meters. To accomplish this the Engineering Technical Analyst will also provide direct support to a variety of operational business groups.

Some skills, which are essential for this role, include mechanical assembly, troubleshooting electrical instrumentation and some minimal level of programming knowledge.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately.
  • Preforms Field visits and work with field operations on selected equipment use and specifications.
  • Preform research and development that leads to issuing updates to Consumers Energy's engineering and construction standards, manuals, design tools, and documents that are used across the business to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Follow and have high level understanding of existing department standards and procedures.
  • Address concerns, investigate suggestions, and provide support and recommendations to the planning, design, procurement, construction operations, and maintenance work groups.
  • Assist with projects, often involves working with multiple company workgroups outside of the department, along with groups outside of the company through technology enablement and strategic sourcing processes to ensure successful completion of project timelines.
  • Participate in process improvement projects that utilize new and changing technologies to gain efficiencies and improve infrastructure.
  • Provides engineering and design support by utilizing company design and construction standards to develop engineering designs. A CAD environment is used to perform work that is complex and of a technical and scientific nature.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE




  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical fieldwith 2 years of relevant experience


  • [OR]Associates Degree in a Technical fieldwith 4 years of relevant experience


  • [OR] High School Diploma with 6 years or relevant experience
