Job Description

Overview:

The Maintenance Technician is a key position on each of our production shifts. The incumbent works as a member of the Maintenance Department and provides technical assistance to the Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Quality Control Departments in resolving equipment or process problems of an immediate or developmental nature. We are looking for strong talent who can utilize their education knowledge and/or experience in assisting the Maintenance Supervisor with coordination, job oversight, design, engineering, technical troubleshooting, training, problem analysis, and programming as assigned.



  • This position is for night shift starting at 7:00 pm-7:00 am
  • Working a rotating schedule



Responsibilities:



  • Must be self-motivated to follow up on maintenance activities.
  • When planned actions do not match actual results, assess the realistic nature of the task, and coach to completion when appropriate.
  • Provides technical assistance to General Maintenance Mechanics (GMMs)
  • On-site training resource for developing skills of GMM's.
  • Attend meetings with Process Engineers and management to understand opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Occasionally assisting automation engineers with technical troubleshooting, contractor relations, and part ordering
  • Develop technical standardization opportunities for the plant, assist in defining requirements for new equipment, and reduce storeroom inventory.


  • Provides technical assistance to Maintenance in resolving day-to-day maintenance or production problems involving production equipment. Maintains an up-to-date basic knowledge of all plant equipment and processes as each area is closely dependent upon the other.
  • Investigate equipment development problems and propose solutions. Initiates method of accomplishing solutions if approved by the Maintenance Supervisor. Provides input to others also assigned to accomplish solutions.
  • Writes work orders and procedures as required to correct malfunctions or improve equipment or processes, both on the short and long-term range.
  • Provides and assists in technical training to Maintenance and Production employees in the use of new or modified equipment within specific areas of accountability. Trains GMM's on plant technologies; PLC's, Servo's, Robotics, Ladder Logic, etc.
  • Works with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Purchasing to determine new products and equipment to be tested. Helps establish parameters for evaluating new products and equipment and assists in the actual testing.
  • Recommends spare parts, instrumentation supplies, etc., as necessary. Advise the Storeroom Supervisor on stock levels. Recommend store additions and reductions to maintain a proper inventory of parts and supplies used in specific areas of accountability.
  • May specify, design, or program maintenance-related items. Assists in determining standards for equipment, components, design, and programming. Keeps software, parts, and documentation up to date.
  • Perform all general maintenance work as assigned. Participate in Maintenance, PIT, and other plant teams and meetings pertinent to areas of accountability.


  • KPIs measured for success: Equipment downtime, mean time between failure (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and equipment reliability



Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of practical, related manufacturing experience
  • The incumbent must be able to work and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the plant organization and with Vitro customers and suppliers and be knowledgeable of plant security and confidentiality policies.
  • The incumbent must be self-motivated, reliable, and able to work productively and efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be available for call-ins on shifts or weekends to assist with plant shutdown work.


  • Must have the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience in troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLC's and Studio 5000 ladder logic
  • Proficient in troubleshooting a FANUC robot program (Handling Tool certification is a plus)
  • Experience troubleshooting Cognex vision systems.
  • Demonstrate success with past projects and the ability to translate skills into glass manufacturing.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradly VFDs and Servos.
  • Troubleshooting 3-phase motors
