The Forklift Operator is responsible for completing the Forklift Training course. The position is also responsible for adhering to policies, procedures, and Union Contract. Minimize negative impacts to the environment in all areas of operation. Identify and record problems (non-conformances, incidents and near misses); initiate, provide, implement, and verify solutions to those problems. The Forklift Operator must also make continuous improvement in all areas pertaining to the job which include quality, health, safety, security, and environmental. Responsibilities
- Adhere to all facility rules, company policies and operational procedures
- Report all incidents and unsafe situations immediately to the Supervisor on duty
- Provide safe handling and documentation on tasks performed
- Ensure that all operations are conducted in a clean and efficient manner and adhere to housekeeping policies
- Attend all required safety, environmental, quality and operations training classes
- Safe and proper operation of the following equipment: Corrugated Baler and Manual Stretch Wrap
- Safe and proper operation of electric and/or propane powered forklift trucks
- Recognize and report questionable materials or deficient quality processes
- Safe and proper operation of automated palletizing and stretch wrapping equipment
- Recognize and differentiate various customer products, codes, and packaging
- Ensure that all task paperwork that a Forklift Operator is responsible for is filled out in its entirety. This includes all shipping and warehousing paperwork associated with the movement.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in the seasonal and/or utility operations of this plant, or documented experience at another packaging facility
- Valid Driver's License
- TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.
Skills and Abilities
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to understand and communicate in written and verbal communication in the English language.
- Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
- Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions).
- The ability to utilize simple hand tools, such as knives, tape dispensers, hot melt glue guns, hand pallet jack, etc.
- The ability to operate corrugated balers and manual stretch wrap machinery
- The ability to operate automated palletizing and stretch wrap equipment.
Hours of Work
- Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- This position requires overtime and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
- Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

- Warehouse environment with a variety of environmental conditions (extreme cold / heat) standing, walking, climbing, etc. for extended periods of time while wearing appropriate PPE, including FR clothing, safety glasses and hard hat.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- Ability to see (20/20) with no color vision deficiencies and hear either naturally or using corrective lenses or hearing aids
- Must be able to carry up to 65 pounds. Must be able to negotiate uneven surfaces, climb ladders including heights over 60 feet, and negotiate uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to wear and use a respirator.
