SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $19.46 to $20.58 and is commensurate with experience.

The Senior Services Dining Site Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of serving the noon-day lunch to program participants and assist with program activities as needed.

This position is located at Karin House, 1395 Aspen St. NW - Washington, DC 20012.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm; occasionally 9:00 am for meetings (20 hours per week)

Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

Required License/Certification: Food Handlers License, CPR certificate, Negative TB test result

Expected Contributions:



  • Knowledge of food handling, temperature and food sanitation required.
  • Knowledge of community engagement and outreach approaches.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to follow confidentiality protocols.
  • Able to proactively plan and solve problems.
  • Able to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Able to multitask efficiently.
  • Must be proficient in basic MS Office programs including MSWord, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer.
  • Able to work with community residents and community-based organizations

Expected Contributions:



  • Assist in serving lunch to the center participants.
  • Assist in preparation for the lunch meals (ex: set up tables, chairs and place settings).
  • Assist in cleaning up after the meal.
  • Maintain safe food handling and sanitary practices.
  • Acquire center volunteers.
  • Maintain a buddy system for participants
  • Assist with implementation of program objectives
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all matters, including but not limited to, clients, personnel, budgets, contracts, Board of Directors and all other non-public business information


Reports to: Wellness Manager, Karin House

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings offsite.
