The Associated Press seeks a talented and aggressive multiformat journalist to join its Global Religion Team, covering diverse stories of religion and other spot and enterprise stories. The successful candidate will have a strong history of television and online video storytelling, as well as taking photos and writing text stories. This is a grant-funded, temporary staff position lasting through Dec. 31, 2026 and covered by AP's agreement with the News Media Guild. Responsibilities: In this role, you will join a team focused on religion - including religion in politics and social issues, religious and spiritual trends and holding religious institutions to account - across the U.S. This position reports to the Global Beats video editor, and as a core part of the Religion Team, works under the guidance of the Global Religion news editor. As a member of a dynamic, round-the-clock operation, you will pitch, develop and research enterprise stories to help produce a competitive and comprehensive all-formats news report about religion and spirituality. We're looking for a multiformat journalist who will primarily shoot, write and edit video and photos, including writing scripts and editing video stories for AP's broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms. You will also contribute to the AP's breaking news and enterprise text report. The successful candidate will use video, graphics and editing techniques to deliver visually engaging journalism, and should be prepared to travel nationwide to report on Religion. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong individual technical skills in the creation of video and photo content, as well as the ability to work within an all-formats team to apply those skills from start to finish on breaking news and short- and long-term projects. They also must be capable of writing breaking, spot and enterprise text stories that distill complex topics into easily understandable content. The successful candidate will be creative, innovative and work effectively in a deadline-driven, dynamic and competitive newsroom and field environment. Strong interpersonal, organizational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritize work, are a must, as is strong news judgment and a quick reaction to breaking news. The successful candidate should have at least two years of full-time news experience as a video journalist at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk. Religion-specific expertise is not required, but a successful candidate will be eager to learn the topic and embrace subject-specific coverage. This position is covered by The Associated Press' contract with the News Media Guild, which provides for an annual salary for Class A staff of between $52,046 and $82,934 based on location and years of professional experience.
