Job Description: Job Summary The Senior Category Manager leads the strategic segment of the organization's Supply Chain; applies commercial process rigor to develop more strategic approaches to the market; drives additional value from 3rd party spend; works closely with the business leaders and key stakeholders to engage the suppliers to deliver improved total cost of ownership solutions; focuses on the highest impact issues and opportunities; assists the Supply Chain Operations team when needed; constructs contracts for the most complex and highest impact suppliers; and acts as supervisory direct report to assigned personnel.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to optimize procurement processes
- Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and assess market trends
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, performance, and risks to ensure alignment with business requirements
- Lead supplier selection processes (i.e., RFPs, RFQs, and supplier evaluations)
- Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements to achieve cost savings and favorable terms
- Manage procurement categories and portfolios to drive efficiency and value
- Analyze spending patterns to identify opportunities for consolidation and standardization
- Develop category strategies that align with business goals and market dynamics
- Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions as needed
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and align category strategies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure alignment with business objectives
- Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and proactively address issues or concerns
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to enhance quality, delivery, and innovation
- Resolve disputes and escalate issues as necessary to maintain productive supplier relationships
- Ensure alignment on sourcing strategies by collaborating with internal stakeholders (i.e., Finance, Operations, and Legal teams)
- Provide procurement process and best practices guidance to the organization's business units
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive initiatives related to cost reduction, risk mitigation, and supplier diversity
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with supplier relationships, supply chain disruptions, and market volatility
- Implement measures to monitor and address risks related to quality, ethics, and sustainability
- Act as supervisor direct report for assigned personnel (i.e., performance management, corrective action, training, defining daily priorities, creating work schedules, etc.)
- Oversee the hiring of assigned personnel (i.e., collaborate with Human Resources recruiters, perform, interviews, select qualified talent, etc.)
- Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies by attending all required HSE training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in Category Management, or similar role, required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field, strongly preferred
- Proven experience in strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier relationship management
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to drive cost savings and value creation
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in procurement software and tools
- Certification in supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) is a plus
- Strategic thinker with a focus on delivering results
- Collaborative team player with strong leadership capabilities
- Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to quality and excellence
- Adaptable and resilient in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Proficient working in Microsoft Office 365 applications and able to quickly learn other work-related software
