Job Summary:

The Director of Value Based Care Accounting is an integral member of the ArchWell Health Finance team and of the broader organization. The primary focus of the Director will be to oversee the preparation and recording of all medical margin activities for multiple payor partners across multiple geographic regions and locations. The Director will report to the VP Controller and support the ArchWell accounting team in all matters relating to revenue recognition, IBNR reporting, accounts receivable tracking and reconciliation, and statistical transactions such as changes in membership. The Director will work closely with the Chief Actuary to support the recording of actuarial guidance and may provide supporting analysis or reporting to the Chief Actuary and other members of the Executive Leadership Team, including the Chief Financial Officer. The Director will lead and develop a team with the goal of timely and accurately presenting medical margin information to be used in the financial statements of the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Lead the monthly Medical Margin financial close and provide timely and accurate reporting on revenue and medical expenses
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures that support the unique requirements of ArchWell Health's value-based care model and align with GAAP
  • Coordinate with the Chief Actuary to record and report changes in medical expense, IBNR, revenue, or accounts receivable and provide supporting analysis when necessary
  • Lead and mentor the members of the accounting team responsible for medical margin
  • Work closely with other members of the finance and accounting team in matters related to policies, procedures, and the control environment
  • Coordinate the settlement process between the ArchWell Finance team and payors as necessary, with support from the Chief Actuary and VP Controller



Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Healthcare industry experience required, with preference for value-based care, managed care or population health finance
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, with NetSuite experience preferred, and strong excel skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence at all levels
  • Experience with accounting for risk-based contracts, including capitation and shared savings models


  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and relationship building skills



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; MBA or MACC preferred; CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role
  • Healthcare industry experience required, with preference for value-based care, managed care or population health finance
