Senior Systems Engineer

This position requires an active Secret clearance.

The Senior Systems Engineer leads information assurance and server administration efforts for a mission-critical GIS data system supporting the U.S. Air Force. Responsibilities include RMF control implementation, system hardening, vulnerability tracking, and supporting ATO documentation efforts, as well as general system administration for Windows Server, Oracle, and web service infrastructure. Familiarity with geospatial data tools is beneficial but secondary to infrastructure and security management.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Senior Systems Engineer: $130,000 - 137,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Senior Systems Engineer Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead Risk Management Framework (RMF) control implementation, documentation, and continuous monitoring activities
  • Maintain and update system security artifacts in eMASS and track POA&M items
  • Apply and maintain DISA STIGs across Windows Server, Oracle, and IIS-based systems
  • Perform and document ACAS and SCAP scan reviews; coordinate vulnerability remediation
  • Support enterprise system hardening, patching, and configuration baselines (GPOs, local security policy)
  • Manage Oracle 19c and ArcGIS Server services at the system level; coordinate with DBAs and developers
  • Oversee Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure (2019+), including Hyper-V virtual environments
  • Monitor and troubleshoot IIS, database, and web application performance and service uptime
  • Support secure implementation of web-based applications (.NET/JavaScript)
  • Draft and maintain SOPs, change requests, and system security plans (SSPs)
  • Coordinate with Configuration Control Board (CCB) processes to document system changes
  • Ensure systems remain compliant with DoD patching and IAVM directives
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Sr Systems Engineer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 5+ years of relevant experience required (advanced degrees or equivalent technical experience may substitute).
  • Required:
    • Hands-on experience with RMF processes and eMASS (control implementation, POA&M, artifacts)
    • 5+ years of system administration and cybersecurity experience in a DoD environment
    • Strong understanding of DISA STIGs and vulnerability management tools (e.g., ACAS, SCAP)
    • Experience managing Windows Server environments (2016/2019), including patching, GPOs, and secure baselines
    • Strong technical documentation and communication skills
  • Preferred:
    • Experience managing virtual environments using Hyper-V
    • Oracle DBA Certified Associate
    • Familiarity with Oracle 12c+ at the system level
    • MCSE or equivalent IIS experience
    • DoD RMF, Esri ArcGIS, SDSFIE, and USAF GeoBase experience
    • Web development skills (HTML5, JavaScript, SQL, etc.)
    • Familiarity with SharePoint, Tomcat, and JDK
    • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
