Job Description Role Summary Albemarle is seeking a Capital Project Assurance Engineer to help manage a program of capital project assurance activities across a global project portfolio and utilizing Albemarle's capital project stage gate process, the Albemarle Project Process (APP). This role will primarily assist project management teams to deploy project delivery processes across the globe along with providing guidance to ensure achievement of cost, schedule, and quality goals. Albemarle works with internal resources to manage the site capital and global EPC/CM firms for various concurrent mega-projects (over $500 million TIC) globally. The successful candidate must have experience with templates, tools, and Owner team staffing for implementation in this environment. The candidate must have experience with projects, including the stage gate approval process through Front End Engineering Design (FEED)/Front End Loading (FEL), Execution, & Commissioning. The candidate is an individual contributor working in a matrixed environment to assist Project Management Teams. Applicants must also have experience and interest to grow in the field of project management while coordinating assurance activities for capital projects that vary from small site continuity capital to mega projects up to approximately $1 Billion. Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the capital project assurance processes, including a portfolio of peer reviews, VIPs, and other assurance activities to support Albemarle project teams are complying to required processes.
- Subject matter expert in Albemarle and industry best practices for stage gate approvals of project deliverables managed through a web portal known as the Albemarle Project Process (APP).
- Provide or connect users as a front-line point of contact for the global community of project management practice. Provide support as needed for project management on systems or process issues related to APP and relevant SAP modules.
- Establish and support the implementation of the Albemarle standard project management deliverables within global EPC/CM firms and internal Engineering groups.
- Provide development, leadership, oversight, advice, and guidance to project teams for stage gate reviews, work breakdown structures (WBS), approvals, peer reviews, readiness assessments, 3rd party risk assessments, etc.
- Maintain liaison with local and corporate internal procurement, financial, and leadership teams to ensure alignment on corporate strategy and goals.
- Facilitate and/or participate on peer reviews at each stage gate of APP to provide quality assurance of deliverables moving forward.
- Facilitate Value Engineering & "Value Engineering Lite" Workshops
- Participate in the global Center of Excellence for Project Management, including facilitating lessons learned sessions, updating training, and updating APP templates for future use.
- Support various initiatives within Albermarle, such as the Capital Efficiency Program (i.e., Value Improving Practices (VIPs), Value Engineering, Best Cost Country Sourcing (BCCS), Preassembly, Prefabrication, Modularization, and off-site Fabrication, (PPMOF), Lessons Learned, etc.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4-7 years of project management experience on capital projects.
- Previous supervisory experience within an Owner's organization is required.
Skills Required
- Knowledge/Skills: Expertise in project management is a must. Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational skills. Must be able to work as part of a team. Must pay close attention to details, follow high standards for accuracy and completeness and accept constructive criticism from coworkers.
- Computer Proficiencies: Detailed knowledge in SharePoint and SAP project systems is necessary. General skills in MS PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications are required.
- Communication Skills: Must have analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to collaborate with a wide range of project teams globally.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Sciences, Project Development or related field.
- Master's Degree in related field is a plus.
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
- Familiarity with IPA (Independent Project Analysis) and CII (Construction Industry Institute practices a plus.
- Project Controls Experience, such as Project Controls Management, Project Scheduling, or Project Risk Management, is a plus.
- Engineering Management, Project Management or Project Lead experience is a plus.
- Experience with stage gated processes is a must
- SAP Project Systems and Project and Portfolio Management experience is a plus
