HealthPartners is currently hiring for a Manager, User Experience Design. The Manager of User Experience Design (UXD) is pivotal in shaping the HealthPartners User Experience strategy and practice. This role involves leading a team of User Experience designers and overseeing key user experience initiatives. The UXD Manager is a champion for our users, guiding teams to create solutions for complex scenarios that set HealthPartners apart in the healthcare, health insurance, and well-being industries. They ensure the consistent, efficient, and effective delivery of experiences that delight our users, making every interaction simple, accessible, guiding, and empowering throughout the end-user journey.

The UXD Manager reports to the Director of User Experience Design and will be part of a dynamic team of twenty-three (23), which includes another UXD Manager, a supervisor of UX research, a supervisor of digital accessibility, and several UX designers. This role is essential to the success of the UX team, as it involves overseeing nine (9) direct reports and guiding the strategic direction of the design system. The UXD Manager will also play a significant leadership role in major projects such as Scheduling Transformation and Virtual Care. Additionally, this position will be a key member of the UX leadership team, contributing to the overall direction as we support our partners and advocate for our users.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in UX Design, Information Architecture, Web Design, Interactive Design, or equivalent experience totaling four (4) years.
  • Six (6) years of experience in Human Centered Design, interaction design, user interface design, user research and accessibility
  • Three (3) years of experience leading projects or teams, ideally in UX Design. Responsibilities should encompass hiring, termination, performance management, and conducting annual reviews. Preference will be given to candidates with formal leadership experience, though a combination of formal and indirect experience totaling three years will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience with UX research, design, and accessibility tools such as Figma and Miro.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to influence within their team and with immediate stakeholders.
  • Solid problem-solving, critical thinking and project management abilities.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in Health Care or Health Insurance
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology platforms, telehealth, mobile health apps, and data analytics
  • Master's degree in related field.


Hours/Location:



  • Monday to Friday, Daytime Hours
  • This position offers a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with onsite presence as needed. The manager will be required to be onsite for key activities such as important meetings, in-person brainstorming sessions, team-building events, and other collaborative efforts.


Responsibilities:



  • (15%) UX Strategy and Practice Application: Apply and contribute to the UX strategy and practice with a focus on the total user experience includes care and plan consumers, employees, and partners. The UXD team will consistently apply a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends, mature practices for User Research, User Experience Design, User Interaction Design and Accessibility for digital and non-digital products and experiences. The objective is to deliver a simple and guiding experience every single time across every user journey within their scope.
  • (20%) UX Team Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and direct the work of team members, providing feedback, and supporting their professional development. Lead and mentor UX Design team members. Deliver high quality solutions influence product owners, and business partners on UX Design best practices and execution within their scope. Lead the design and influence development of experiences that create value for our users, business, and brand across omni channels and products. Ensure compliance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • (15%) Cross Functional Collaboration: Work to ensure UX Design is engaged and provides the right level of consulting at the right time to deliver a differentiated, seamless, simple, and affordable experience. Collaborate and build relationships across Communications & Marketing, Care, Health Plan, IT and with other key stakeholders to ensure the alignment of UX Design goals within their assigned projects or products.
  • (15%) User Experience Improvement: Lead initiatives that improve health & well-being user experiences using data, industry best practices and human centered design to support HealthPartners core business objectives to maintain the highest performing team, help our patients and members thrive, and enable strategic growth.
  • (10%) Grow and Share Expertise: Stay informed of health & wellbeing user experience trends relevant to their work. Contribute to market research efforts and competitive analysis to assure HealthPartners is leaning into industry leading best practices. Drive innovation within their projects and make recommendations for UX Design application.
  • (5%) User Experience Practice KPI's and Analytics: Identify, evaluate, and measure relevant KPI's to improve and validate success within their projects and teams.
  • (5%) Continuous Improvement Contribution: Contribute to the evolution of critical design platforms such as the Pattern Library and our Digital Design System and maintain adherence within their team. Assess and recommend tools that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
  • (5%) Prioritization and Guidance: Partner with UX and cross functional business partners to prioritize the team's work, support team members in their work and contribute to the development of their skills and strengths. Focus on our values of excellence, compassion, integrity, and partnership.
  • (5%) Elevate User Experience: Advocate for the importance of user experience within their teams and projects and reinforce it within the product development process. Champion and strengthen foundational UX Design practices while also exploring and implementing new UX Design methodologies, tools, and technologies to enhance the team's capabilities and stay current with industry standards. Foster collaboration across different channels (web, mobile, in-clinic, etc.) to create a cohesive and seamless user experience across all touchpoints within their scope. Instill a culture of user-centricity through the product lifecycle.
  • (5%) Design System Oversight and Strategy: Oversee the implementation and adoption of the design system within their scope. Aide in developing best practices for evolving the design system approach and partner with development and DXE (Digital Experience Engineering) to ensure alignment and effective integration of design system components and patterns.
