Description

The Coding Auditor Educator reports to the Deputy Director of coding and is responsible for providing on-going support, audits, coding denials, and education of the coding staff, and billing providers with proper documentation, accuracy, and coding guidelines. This position will be expected to build strong working relationships with all coding staff, compliance, departments, and billing providers. Create coding educational training sessions and develop training materials relative to proper medical record documentation and coding, and assist with investigation of coding, billing and denials. Create and implementation and monitoring of coding staff audits and education.


Examples of Duties

Auditing 50%
1. Responsible for creating and conducting coding staff and billing providers audits.
2. Design and use audit tools to monitor the 95% accuracy of coding staff.
3. Identify and reports issues related to audits and coding denials.
4. Maintain external request for post payments audits and maintain log of activity.
5. Preparing audit reports for management.
6. Performs audit reviews, researches, and recommends needed changes to coding staff, medical providers, and/or administrators.

Education 50%
1. Provide education, feedback, and training to coders and departments.
2. Prepare orientation packets for new providers and coding staff, ensure information is specific to new employee activities.
3. Assist with department newsletters.
4. Participate in department and coding staff development.
5. Provides and/or arrange for training of coding staff and medical specialties.
6. Attend meetings with coders/management for individual providers education.
7. Maintain denials trends and create and maintain insurance job aides.
8. Problem-solve insurance rejections and denial issues.
9. Create and present inhouse education for coding and department staff.
10. Work with compliance for tends in billing and coding.
11. Assist coding staff with complex cases.
12. Maintain Coding Certification.


Qualifications

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
  2. Current certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or current certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or a Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) (formerly CPC-H certification).
  3. Three (3) years (36 months) of total work experience, two (2) years (24 months) of which are comparable to that performed at the Reimbursement Coding Specialist level of this series or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
