Administrator Position Summary

The Senior Director, General Accounting and Comptroller provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the College's accounting, financial reporting, and audit readiness functions. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, GASB, and all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations. Serving as the College's principal accounting authority, the incumbent is responsible for financial integrity, operational efficiency, and long-term fiscal sustainability across all accounting functions.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.

  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including three (3) years in a leadership or comptroller capacity.

  • Proven experience with financial statement preparation, audits, internal controls, and financial planning.

  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, automation, and change management within finance operations.

  • Experience in higher education or public sector accounting strongly preferred.

  • Current and valid Texas driver's license required for offsite travel.

  • Official Transcript required

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides visionary leadership and direction over general accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and external audits.

  • Oversees the preparation, analysis, and audit of the College's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable standards and regulations, including GAAP, GASB, and state and federal guidelines.

  • Serves as the primary liaison with external auditors and internal stakeholders, ensuring the timely submission of required documentation.

  • Directs the preparation and management of financial statements, monthly and year-end close, general ledger activities, account reconciliation, and journal entries.

  • Leads financial planning, forecasting, and internal control initiatives that enhance transparency and operational efficiency.

  • Monitors and enforces compliance with federal, state, and College financial policies, and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains internal control systems that safeguard institutional assets and ensure data accuracy.

  • Designs and implements automated and optimized accounting processes to improve workflow efficiency and accuracy.

  • Collaborates with institutional departments and stakeholders to develop efficient, compliant, and automated accounting processes and systems.

  • Guides and mentors accounting leadership and staff, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional development, and service.

  • Participates in college-wide planning and governance committees, contributing financial expertise to key decisions.

  • Manages departmental budget and staffing resources in alignment with organizational goals.

  • Leads strategic initiatives related to financial systems enhancement, integration, and reporting tools.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
