Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Electronics Technical Specialist to join our rapidly expanding team in Troy, MI. As a member of the operations team in Troy, MI, the Technical Specialist (Electronics) at Element, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of test equipment and electronics within our lab environment. You will focus on troubleshooting and restoring legacy systems, including controllers, amplifiers, transducers, and various lab instrumentation, ensuring optimal functionality for ongoing testing programs.



Responsibilities

    Troubleshoot and repair a range of MTS controllers, including models 407, 409, 458, and FlexTest 60, 100, and 200, as well as custom-built analog amplifiers used with accelerometers and various transducers (LVDTs, load cells, torque cells)
  • Diagnose faults and perform board-level repairs using equipment schematics and circuit diagrams
  • Deliver technical support for lab operations, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of all testing equipment
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance lab instrumentation's reliability, functionality, and accuracy
  • Maintain precise documentation of all repair, calibration, and testing activities; work closely with calibration personnel to ensure traceability and compliance
  • Assist in testing and qualifying equipment for both durability and performance assessments
  • Design and fabricate custom circuits for testing and calibration applications
  • Skilled in precision soldering and PCB (printed circuit board) repair
  • Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols and handling procedures


Skills / Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in electronic repair and maintenance within a lab or test environment
  • In-depth knowledge of MTS controllers, analog amplifiers, transducers, and related testing systems
  • Proficiency in analog electronics, including hands-on troubleshooting and repair of analog amplifiers and sensors
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently or collaboratively
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical schematics and perform detailed circuit diagnostics
  • Electronic Technician Associated Degree
  • Experience with calibration tools and testing procedures
  • Certification or formal training in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in the aerospace, automotive, or materials science industries
