EH&S Specialist I

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist will work independently and with diverse teams of staff and management to develop, implement, and maintain best-in-class environmental, health, safety management compliance programs and a variety of environmental, energy, waste, health and safety management functions. Functions include environmental program coordination, environmental, health and safety data analysis, regulatory and company compliance & reporting including attaining and maintain LEEDS certification, waste recycling, storage & removal, environmental consultant/vendor management, document retention and emergency response planning & support

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Obtains and maintains Air Permits, Hazardous Waste, Storm Water Permits, TRI reporting etc.
• Lead efforts to remain in compliance with Federal and State Environmental regulations and maintain required documentation.
• Lead sustainability initiatives in support of Corporate Environmental goals.
• Environmental, health safety laws and regulations through professional reading, electronic professional websites, and networking with peers
• Assist with health & safety audits, inspections, training
  
  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of Management Systems such as ISO 14000 and ISO 18000
• Strong coaching, training, and motivational skills from developed communication skills, written and verbal
• Proven ability to lead cross functional teams or work groups
• Ability to establish credibility with internal customers and work well with all levels of management
• Excellent people skills with the ability to interface and maintain effective partnerships with all departments
• Working knowledge of and experience with local, state and federal regulations (i.e. air permitting, storm water regulations)
• Working knowledge in the use of Environmental & Energy Management Systems as well as Health and Safety Management Systems
• Ability to interpret and apply environmental, health & safety regulations on a practical basis
• Effective presentation & training skills based in solid written & verbal communication
• Ability to work in a team orientated environment that is fast paced and demanding
• Must be self-directed , have excellent initiative and organizational skills
• Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety or Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field
• 3-5 years of environmental, health, safety government compliance experience

Preferred Education / Experience

• Advanced degree in Environmental Science/ Engineering or related field
• Manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated success in planning and implementing effective environmental, health, & safety systems especially ISO 14001.
