Job Summary:

This Lead Engineer role will be responsible for assisting management with various assignments including but not limited to transmission protection engineer training, group documentation updates, overseeing complex transmission protection area projects and NERC compliance support. The Lead Engineer will also support interdepartamental task forces and industry user groups.

Essential Functions:

Independently functions as a responsible leader of transmission protection engineering projects and studies.

Improves and enhances the engineering process and procedures.

Identifies, develops, and prioritizes projects or tasks to electric system design or operation.

Supports the preparation of yearly capital and O&M budgets and monitors financial performance for respective area.

Leads task forces, user groups, inter-utility work groups, and professional organizations.

Coaches and develops employees including providing opportunities for employee development, supporting managers by providing constructive feedback for performance reviews, and oversees training of new employees to ensure each receives the appropriate training.

Builds safety into the electric transmission system by ensuring design adherence to applicable internal standards and procedures, and ensures compliance with external code requirements (ANSI, IEEE, ERCOT, NERC, etc.),.

Assists in the development and issuance of standards or design criteria to be used by CEHE.

Works proactively with internal and external stakeholders and customers to identify opportunities to improve the reliability or operatibility of the electric system.

Produces solid documentation including business cases, performance metrics, status reports, and create Engineering Bulletins as needed.

Provides audit support by ensuring engineering information is accurate and by representing CEHE as a Subject Matter Expert, and provides expert testimony as needed for regulatory filings and other company business.

Basic Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university

Requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas.

A minimum of five years electric utility or power engineering experience that includes performing engineering calculations and/or design is preferred.

A minimum of three years of transmission protection experience preferred.

Conditions:

Physical Requirements

Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Able to operate a motor vehicle.

Able to travel to field locations for inspection, investigation and to travel out of town overnight for meetings or conferences.

Able to meet challenging deadlines and enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Able to work a varied schedule that may require more than 40 hours per week to meet established deadlines and accomplish objectives.

Working Conditions:

Able to perform work in an office environment.

Able to work in fast-paced environment with a high volume workload and frequent, short deadlines that may require more that a 40-hour work week to meet established deadlines, including working nights and/or weekends as required.

Able to travel outside of primary work location, in any weather conditions and occasionally overnight, to field locations, remote areas, conferences and/or meetings.

May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
