Job Title: Recreation Coordinator - Climbing & Adult Athletics
Department: Recreation
Classification: Non-Exempt
Hiring Range: $25.45/hour - $28.64/hour
Salary Range: $25.45/hour - $38.18/hour
Position Summary: Performs a variety of duties, including technical and administrative support and customer service, consistent with the organization's values and mission statement. Maintains commercial climbing structures for safety and industry compliance. Organizes and instructs indoor and outdoor community programs for adults and youth. Also provides oversite of adult athletic programs, tournaments and events.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor- Programs.
Essential Job Functions:
Customer Service
*Greets and assists visitors and answers the phone at the front desk of the Recreation facilities. Provides positive customer service and information regarding the recreation facilities, program content and registration process. Deals with any customer issues that may arise in the course of work.
Recreation Programming
*Develops and implements new and ongoing programs within our outdoor recreation and climbing programs, and indoor/outdoor climbing classes.
*Responsible for managing and facilitating daily program operations of assigned programs.
*Promotes and markets new programs through different forms of media and updating the website.
*Responsible for coordinating recreation's programs which include daily programs, events, tournaments, and other services associated with adult athletics.
*Collects and organizes surveys to identify needs of the local community to develop and improve programs.
*Effectively communicates adequate information to program participants and staff.
*Assists with promoting and marketing programs through different forms of media.
*Researches and evaluates program offerings for best practice for meeting community needs. Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal staff and program volunteers.
Recreation Operations
*Responsible for completion and submittal of the US Forest Service and Pitkin County Open Space Land Permits for all programs using these resources. Creates and maintains recreation information on the website, voicemail and publications, including the Reach screens and web page. Oversees revenues and expenses for assigned recreation programs.
Safety
*Maintains the safety standards of the Climbing Wall at the Red Brick Recreation Center and Climbing Tower at the ARC. Reports and documents weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly safety checks on all climbing areas, building safety checks, and facility equipment for safety and liability concerns. Completes route setting for rock climbing wall at the Red Brick and climbing tower at the ARC for the safety and enjoyment of patrons.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two years of recreation or other relevant experience, work experience should include customer service.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Email), Publisher, PowerPoint, Access, recreation scheduling software, online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web based platforms, update recreation website, and point of sale software.
Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a AMGA SPI and BICP LEVEL 2 Instructor certifications or be able to obtain within the first 6 months of start date. Must possess First Aid and CPR Certification. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date. Must complete Incident Command System (ICS) training levels 100, 200 and 400 within the first year of start date. Must complete safe sport training within 30 days of start date.
Preferred Candidate: Has two years previous recreation programming experience and lead worker experience. Bachelor's degree from an accredited school, college or university.
NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.
Position Type and Work Hours:
*Regular full time, hours may vary with workload. Hours and schedule will vary depending on programs and events. Days and hours will change regularly.
*Evenings/Weekends/Holidays may be required depending on department needs and special projects.
Work Environment:
*Indoors: Recreation center which includes office environment, ice/aquatics facility, and recreational environment. Noise level in work environment may be high. Will be working around hazardous material in the ice mechanical plant and aquatics checmical rooms.
*Outdoors/Off-Site: Meetings, special events, and trainings. Some outdoor work may be required that involves varied weather conditions.
