Position Summary

The Park Maintenance Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure the upkeep, safety, and playability of athletic areas and park amenities. This role specializes in maintaining sports fields and courts while also supporting general park maintenance. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.

Schedule/Hours:

October - April: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm
May - September: Sunday - Thursday 7:00am - 3:30pm

Full-Time 40 hours per week

AFSCME-represented position

12-month probationary period

Must meet all qualifications and requirements as listed in the position description.




Essential Functions

Park Maintenance Technicians will perform some or all of the following essential functions depending on assigned area.

Performs sports field maintenance, including set up and take down of sports facilities. Assists in the construction and installation of specialized sports and park operational equipment.

Performs basic groundskeeping, mows and maintains rough and finish turf areas.

Performs routine repairs, basic maintenance, and assists in landscaping, horticulture, turf, trails, irrigation systems, natural features, sport fields, sport courts, and/or facility repairs.

Performs routine repairs and maintains irrigation equipment and facilities.

Performs facilities maintenance including sanitation of restrooms and shelters, garbage removal, litter pickup, and playground repairs.

Assists with vehicle and equipment maintenance and schedules servicing.

Assists in the evaluation and reporting of damage to public property.

Assists with direction and training of volunteers and employees as needed. Implements daily assignments of other park maintenance staff. Participates in the recruitment process.

Participates in the annual budget process by providing input and assistance to the Parks Maintenance Leadworker for assigned area of responsibility.

Assists with department wide events,campcleanups, and activities as assigned.

Responds to after-hours emergency calls and makes necessary repairs.

Acts ethically and honestly; applies ethical standards of behavior to daily work activities and interactions. Builds confidence in the City through own actions.

Conforms with all safety rules and performs work is a safe manner.

Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.

Maintains effective work relationships.

Adheres with all City and Department policies.

Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintain regular job attendance.

Operates and drives a motor vehicle and/or equipment safely and legally.


Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Two years of work experience in park maintenance, horticulture, turf care, or related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, landscape and turf care, vegetation management, and basic electrical applications.

Ability to assist in the direction of Youth Parks Corp crews, casual employees, and volunteers.

Ability to safely operate and maintain a large variety of equipment, including power tools.

Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with park users regarding park rules and appropriate behavior.

Ability to use a computer to perform the essential functions of the position.

Ability to get along well with coworkers and the public, and maintain effective work relationships.

Special Requirements

Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and/or criminal history check.

State of Oregon Pesticide Applicators license within the probationary period depending on assigned area.

Certified Playground Safety Inspector within the probationary period depending on assigned area.

Maintenance of First Aid/CPR certification.

Possession and ability to maintain a valid Driver's License.
