Job Summary
An opportunity for an internship exists in the area of athletics administration. The Assistant Director of Athletic Operations and External Relations is a two-year position available in 2025-26 and 2026-27. The intern will provide support to specific varsity teams in event management and special events while representing Bethel University in a Christ-like manner. The intern will also have the opportunity to select an additional area in the Athletics Department where he or she would like to gain experience, or propose another comparable project.

Responsibilities

1. 60% - Provide support to specific varsity teams in event management
  • Assist with the oversight of all aspects of home events in football, men's and women's ice hockey, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.
  • Provide leadership to all aspects of MIAC or NCAA Playoff hosting duties in any sport.
  • Effectively communicate with all staff members to create the highest quality home event environment including post-season events.
  • Provide leadership for student-worker staff in event management and sports information who are working at events.
  • Conduct analysis of services and recommend services that should be enhanced or eliminated.


2. 20% - Provide support for Athletic Department special events
  • Execute Athletic Department special departmental and community engagement events.
  • Examples include: events tied to Homecoming and Family Weekend, fundraising events such as the Bethel Golf Classic and team fundraisers at TopGolf, Special Olympic partnerships, and unique events such as early graduation ceremonies that we often hold for teams competing at NCAA Championships over our scheduled graduation weekend.


3. 15% - Intern-selected experience. The intern will select any of the following areas where he or she would like to gain experience, or propose another comparable project.
  • Name/Image/Likeness (NIL) - gain experience in our content delivery platform Influencer (by Teamworks); support efforts with our Bethel NIL Store (through Campus Ink); support student-athlete brand development.
  • Creative Content - assist Communications staff with the development of creative content for social media, and provide professional development and oversight for student employees who develop content for individual teams.
  • Women's Flag Football Club Team - assist Bethel Clubs and Activities leadership, and team coaches, with the second season of Women's Flag Football, funded by the NFL grant through the Minnesota Vikings. Assist with travel arrangements, development of recruiting materials alongside the coaching staff, and other team operations.

4. 5% - Other
  • We are open to proposals from the candidate about other areas of interest or special projects that might fill a need for our department.

Experience

Required Experience:
  • One year experience in Athletics or a related field. Could include student employment.
Education

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree

Additional Information

Compensation: The annual salary is $30,000 for each of the two academic years (2025-26 and 2026-27). In addition, $3,000 in professional development funding is available each year to support internship-related expenses.

Travel: This position requires some regional and national travel to attend NCAA-required training andprofessional development opportunities. Orientation for this position will be held July 27th - 29 th , 2025 in Indianapolis, IN. Attendance to this orientation event is a requirement for this internship.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and/or laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position spanning 10 months (August through May). Typically, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with the expectation to work specific schedules and hours as identified and communicated by management. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
