Overview

Primary responsibilities are to ensure that the Agency's financial transactions are recorded in compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the maintenance of the Agency's internal control structure and the management of all accounting operational functions and the management of the budget process.

The Elizabeth Hospice is San Diego's oldest non-profit hospice of 45 years. We are growing and looking for talented individuals to join our high performing team and support our mission. We serve all of San Diego county and south Riverside county with multiple hospice office locations.

Our Mission: To enhance the quality of life for those nearing the end of life's journey and for those who grieve.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Salary: $130,000-$170,00 annually. Subject to experience and qualifications.

Work Location: Escondido, CA



Responsibilities

    Reviews monthly general and standard journal entries, account reconciliations and comparative reports. Reviews monthly accounts payable coding and accruals. Ensures that all financial transactions are properly recorded.
  1. Evaluates the effectiveness of the accounting software to ensure it meets hospice's needs and provides complete and accurate records of the hospice's financial transactions.
  2. Supervises the accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and the billing and receivables staff to ensure that their work is properly integrated into the accounting system. Knowledgeable of the payroll, A/P, and billing system as they impact the quality of the financial data.
  3. Plans, coordinates and prepares for year-end audits. Coordinates with the external auditors to manage the audit.
  4. Prepares external financial statements, and internal financial reports, analysis and presentations to management.
  5. Reviews actual and budget variances with operating managers and assists them in realizing operating objectives.
  6. Recommends ways to control costs, provides financial analysis to support recommendations, and develops benchmarking tools to improve performance.
  7. Is knowledgeable of data management, modeling, analysis, and reporting tools. Designs reports that effectively communicates conclusions and recommends action plans derived from data.
  8. Keeps current of software applications such as spreadsheet, relational databases, statistical and graphics packages to develop, present and manipulate data and results.
  9. Works with Department Director/Manager in preparation of the annual budget.
  10. Conducts special projects and studies of a financial nature and prepares reports for Leadership and management to assist in important decision making.
  11. Implements, and educates on internal controls.
  12. Maintains accounting manual and is responsible for accounting policies, procedures and controls.
  13. Coordinates with outside accountant for preparation of the Agency tax returns.
  14. Acts as an advisor during the annual 401k audit.
  15. Responsible for the hiring, training, and retaining competent accounting staff.


Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting and work experience/CPA a must.
  2. Advanced Excel skills
  3. Proven management experience.
  4. Excellent verbal and written skills.
  5. Ability to handle multiple job duties simultaneously.
  6. Has current knowledge, through professional education and readings, of GAAP, legal and accounting standards and control procedures.
  7. Possess Microsoft Office skills, some familiarity with database and management reporting tools.
  8. Current California driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
